Clue scroll money making without lottery thinking: how to farm clues efficiently, what costs to track, and how to judge Treasure Trails profit over real sample sizes.

Overview

Clue scroll money making is variance with chores. The average can be fine; your next ten clues might not care. This page is about building a clue loop you can sustain and measure - not promising a purple every hour.

For step types, gear and completion systems, use the clue scrolls Treasure Trails guide. Here we treat clues as a GP method: acquisition, completion cadence, costs and exit rules.

Impling, skilling drop and PvM clue sources all change with updates. Pick a farm route that already fits content you were going to do.

Requirements

Hard clues gate hard steps. If you cannot complete the tier's common requirements, you are collecting paper, not making money.

Setup

Setup is a clue kit tab: teleports, spade, house tabs, and whatever that tier always wants.

  1. Choose a clue tier whose step requirements you can complete cold.
  2. Build a bank preset for that tier.
  3. Pick an acquisition method (implings, skilling, PvM) that fits your attention.
  4. Fill useful STASH units before a marathon.
  5. Decide a sample size for profit judgement before the first lucky master loot warps your brain.

Route and Process

Acquire -> solve -> bank rewards -> repeat. Do not mix three tiers mid-session unless your kit already supports it.

  1. Farm or open clues until you have a stack worth solving.
  2. Solve in batches to reuse teleport paths.
  3. Break for Wilderness steps with a risk kit - see Wilderness money.
  4. Alch or GE-sell trash loot on a schedule.
  5. Log the batch result before starting another stack.

Costs to Subtract

Clue costs are teleports, missed tickets on bad steps, and the time sink of fiddly fetches.

  • Teleport runes, tabs and jewellery
  • Bought step items you do not already own
  • Impling jar or other acquisition costs if relevant
  • Deaths on dangerous steps
  • GE tax on reward sales

How to Calculate Realistic Profit

Judge clues over dozens of completions of the same tier, not over one third-age daydream.

  1. Record acquisition time and solve time separately if you care about hourly comparisons.
  2. Value all rewards from a large batch at conservative GE prices.
  3. Subtract teleports, buyables and deaths.
  4. Compute average per clue and per hour from that batch only.
  5. Compare to Wiki clue reward data and money pages as a sanity band.

Ironman Relevance

Clues are gear and utility more than GP. Blessed d'hide, god books progress and tools matter more than alch value.

Still finish easy clues - they are account upgrades wearing a scroll.

Common Mistakes

Calling clues "dead" after a dry stack is how people miss the average they never sampled.

  • Opening masters without the skill requirements to finish them
  • No STASH prep, then rage-quitting fetch steps
  • Wilderness steps in expensive gear
  • Ignoring the Treasure Trails guide for step tech
  • Counting a single rare as your permanent GP/hour

When to Move On

Exit conditions matter as much as the method itself. Switch when one of these is true:

  • Your large-sample average loses to a skilling or PvM method you prefer.
  • You are only hunting one rare cosmetic - that is a hobby grind, not a money method.
  • Step requirements are blocking most scrolls - train or quest, then return.

FAQ

What clue tier is best money?

It depends on your completion speed and live reward prices. Time a real batch per tier you can finish.

Should I always buy clue steps items?

If the time saved beats the GE cost for your wage in this method - calculate it once and reuse the rule.

Are implings good clue money?

They can be for acquisition. Include jar and hunt time in the ledger.

Do beginners start with easy clues?

Yes if that is what you can finish. Incomplete clues are inventory litter.

Bottom Line

Clue money is batch averages plus teleport efficiency. Prep STASH units, finish the tier you started, and ignore single-loot propaganda.

Use the Treasure Trails guide for steps; use this page for the GP framing.
