OSRS Lost City Quest Guide: Zanaris, Dramen Staff, and Entrana Tips

A practical Lost City walkthrough covering the Lumbridge Swamp start, Entrana dungeon rules, the level 101 Tree spirit fight, Dramen staff crafting, and why this quest unlocks Zanaris and major mid-game content.
The Short Answer
Lost City is the quest that opens Zanaris, the lost fairy city (described as the moon of Gielinor). You start at the adventurers’ camp on the north-western edge of Lumbridge Swamp, learn that a leprechaun named Shamus knows the way, then craft a Dramen staff from a branch cut in the Entrana Dungeon after defeating a level 101 Tree spirit. Equip the staff and enter the tool shed in the centre of Lumbridge Swamp to finish.
- Start: adventurers’ camp, NW Lumbridge Swamp (south of Draynor Village)
- Key item: Dramen staff (Dramen branch + knife)
- Boss hurdle: level 101 Tree spirit in Entrana Dungeon
- Finish: equip Dramen staff → enter the swamp tool shed portal to Zanaris
Before You Start
The provided quest summary does not list skill requirements, quest prerequisites, or quest-point rewards. Verify those on the OSRS Wiki Lost City page before you bank for the run—especially if you’re on a fresh or restricted account.
Mindset for Entrana
The real planning step is Entrana. Monks of Entrana do not allow armour or weapons on the island. You will obtain a bronze axe inside the dungeon from zombies, then fight the Tree spirit deeper in. Bring a combat plan that respects the island rules, plus a knife for the Dramen branch after the kill.
What you can take to Entrana (from the quest notes)
- Items to make armour (for example needle, thread, and dragonhide or leather)
- Some clothing options such as H.A.M. robes and full graceful
- Celastrus bark to make a battlestaff
- A knife and logs (or an unstrung bow) plus a bow string to make a bow
- Arrows
- Runes (combat and teleports)
- Potions, food, jewellery, god books, and blessings
Dramen branches worth cutting extra
After the Tree spirit dies, cut multiple branches if you can. A Dramen branch is required for the Freeing Sir Amik Varze subquest of Recipe for Disaster, and another is useful for smuggling into Thorvald’s trial during The Fremennik Trials. Do not turn every branch into a staff yet—cutting at least three branches is recommended in the quest notes.
Walkthrough: Finding Shamus
Head to the north-western edge of Lumbridge Swamp, just south of Draynor Village, and speak with the adventurers at their camp.
- Ask the warrior why he is camped out—he will let slip that he is searching for Zanaris.
- Ask who Zanaris is—he reveals it is a hidden magical city.
- Ask how he plans to find it, then observe that it looks like he doesn’t know—he accidentally reveals a leprechaun hiding in a nearby tree knows the way.
- Find the nearby tree that only has a “Chop” option (not “Chop down”). Chop it to pop out Shamus the leprechaun.
Shamus tells you to visit the shed in the swamp: the doorway is a portal to Zanaris, but you need a Dramenwood staff first. That staff is crafted from a Dramen tree found only in the Entrana Dungeon.
Walkthrough: Entrana and the Dungeon
Travel to Entrana
Go to Port Sarim and find the Monks of Entrana on the second jetty south of the Rusty Anchor Inn. After depositing banned gear, speak to a monk to sail over.
On arrival, head east around the church, then north over the bridge. West of the bridge is a cave monk beside the dungeon entrance.
Bronze axe from zombies
Climb down and kill level 25 zombies until one drops a bronze axe. Safespots exist by the mushrooms against the west wall, and by the small group of mushrooms in the southern part of the zombie area.
Path to the Dramen Tree
With an axe, head south through the cave until you see greater demons and a small cave off to the south. Run past the demons into that southern area to reach the Dramen Tree.
Tree Spirit Fight and Dramen Staff
Chop the Dramen Tree and a level 101 Tree spirit appears. This is the combat gate of the quest.
Safespot approach (Magic or Ranged)
Cut the tree from the south, then run between the three mushrooms to the south-west once the spirit spawns. That positioning is called out specifically for Magic or Ranged players.
Kill credit rules
- Rings of recoil can be used.
- Other players can assist, but the questing player must deal at least 1 damage for the kill to count.
- If you kill the spirit from outside the room, it can respawn when you cut the tree again—finish the kill properly, then cut for the branch.
Craft the staff
- Defeat the Tree spirit.
- Cut the Dramen Tree again for a Dramen branch (cut extras if you want spares for later content).
- Use a knife on a Dramen branch to make the Dramen staff.
Teleport out when you’re done. You do not need to walk the whole island route back if you brought a legal teleport method.
Finishing the Quest in Lumbridge Swamp
Return to the tool shed in the centre of Lumbridge Swamp. Equip the Dramen staff before opening the door. Entering with the staff equipped takes you to Zanaris and completes Lost City.
Unlocks and Why Lost City Matters
Zanaris access is the headline reward, but Lost City is also a requirement spine for several important accounts goals:
| Unlock / requirement | Why players care |
|---|---|
| Fairytale I - Growing Pains | Fairy ring progression starts here |
| Heroes’ Quest | Classic mid-game quest chain gate |
| Lunar Diplomacy | Lunar spellbook route |
| Freeing Sir Amik Varze | Recipe for Disaster subquest (also wants a Dramen branch) |
| Lumbridge & Draynor Medium Diary | Diary completion path |
| Lumbridge & Draynor Hard Diary | Diary completion path |
| Slayer Master Chaeldar | Zanaris Slayer master access |

If you’re sequencing toward a quest cape, treat Lost City as infrastructure: it enables fairy logistics, Chaeldar tasks, and multiple later questlines rather than standing alone.
Practical Checklist
- Talk through the warrior dialogue at the Lumbridge Swamp camp until Shamus is revealed.
- Chop the special “Chop”-only tree to meet Shamus.
- Bank/deposit Entrana-banned gear at Port Sarim; keep knife, food, legal combat setup, and teleports.
- Sail to Entrana; enter the dungeon north/east path via the cave monk (expect Prayer to drop nearly to 0).
- Safespot or fight level 25 zombies for a bronze axe.
- Go south past greater demons—avoid the eastern magical door to Wilderness.
- Chop Dramen Tree → kill level 101 Tree spirit (deal at least 1 of your own damage) → cut branch(es) → knife into Dramen staff.
- Equip staff; enter the central Lumbridge Swamp tool shed to reach Zanaris and complete the quest.
- Optionally bank extra Dramen branches for Sir Amik Varze / Fremennik Trials smuggling later.
FAQ
Where do I start Lost City?
At the adventurers’ camp on the north-western edge of Lumbridge Swamp, just south of Draynor Village. Start the dialogue chain with the warrior.
How do I get the Dramen staff?
In the Entrana Dungeon, obtain a bronze axe from zombies, chop the Dramen Tree, defeat the level 101 Tree spirit, cut a Dramen branch, and use a knife on the branch.
Can I bring weapons or armour to Entrana?
Monks do not allow armour or weapons. You can bring materials and certain clothing/combat alternatives listed above (runes, arrows, graceful/H.A.M., jewellery, and so on). When in doubt, deposit questionable gear before boarding.
What level is the Tree spirit?
Level 101. Magic and Ranged users can use the mushroom safespot south-west of the tree after spawning it.
Can someone else kill the Tree spirit for me?
Others can assist, but you must deal at least 1 damage yourself for the kill to count. Rings of recoil are allowed.
Why shouldn’t I make every branch into a staff?
A plain Dramen branch is needed for Freeing Sir Amik Varze, and another branch is useful for smuggling related to Thorvald’s trial in The Fremennik Trials. Keep spares unprocessed.
Where is the Zanaris portal?
The tool shed in the centre of Lumbridge Swamp. Equip the Dramen staff, then enter.
What if I hate Entrana smuggling or the Tree spirit?
That’s a common sticking point on lower-combat or iron accounts. If you’d rather hand the awkward sections to experienced questers, read how hand-done help works in our questing service overview—optional, never required to finish the guide yourself.

Bottom Line
Lost City is short, but it’s picky: correct swamp dialogue, legal Entrana inventory, a clean Tree spirit kill, and a Dramen staff equipped at the shed. Do it once with spare branches in the bank and you unlock Zanaris plus a stack of mid-game progression—fairy content, Chaeldar, Heroes’ Quest, Lunar Diplomacy, and diary steps included.
Double-check any skill requirements or reward numbers on the official wiki before you set out, follow the checklist above, and you’ll be standing in Zanaris without a return trip through the demons.
