OSRS Akkha Guide: Style Cycling, Memory Phases and Shadow Orbs — Bils Services

Akkha explained: how his style cycling decides your prayer and your weapon, how the memory phases with shadow orbs work, the quadrant special, and how invocations change the fight in Tombs of Amascut.

Overview

Akkha is the boss at the end of the Path of Het in Tombs of Amascut, and the raid's designated lesson in style switching. He cycles through combat styles and elemental forms, and expects you to change both your protection prayer and your attack style to keep up.

Akkha also introduces the raid's memory mechanic: at health thresholds he becomes untargetable and shadow orbs appear, which you must attack in the order they were shown. Getting it wrong is punished with damage rather than a wipe, which makes Akkha a relatively forgiving place to learn.

This guide covers the style cycle, the memory phases, the quadrant special, and how the invocations you pick change the difficulty.

Requirements and Access

Akkha has no requirement of its own beyond raid access. The real variable is which invocations your team has turned on.

Hard requirements
  • Requirement
    Beneath Cursed Sands
    Detail
The quest that unlocks Tombs of Amascut.
  • Requirement
    Two usable combat styles
    Detail
Akkha's style cycling means a one-style setup will be extremely slow.
  • Requirement
    43+ Prayer
    Detail
Protection prayers; 74+ for Rigour or Augury is a large upgrade.
  • Requirement
    Raid level awareness
    Detail
Invocations directly scale Akkha's damage and health.
  • Requirement
    Understanding of ToA deaths
    Detail
Deaths cost points rather than ending the raid.

If you have not run Tombs of Amascut before, read the Tombs of Amascut guide first — invocation choice affects Akkha more than your gear does.

Getting There

Akkha sits at the end of the Path of Het inside Tombs of Amascut.

  1. Complete Beneath Cursed Sands and travel to the Necropolis south of Nardah.
  2. Set your invocations, then enter the raid and choose the Path of Het.
  3. Clear the path puzzle and combat rooms to reach Akkha's chamber.

Akkha is often the first path people learn because his mechanics are readable and his punishments are damage rather than instant death.

Recommended Stats

Akkha scales with raid level rather than being a fixed stat check. These are levels where the fight is comfortable at moderate invocations.

Suggested combat stats
  • Stat
    Ranged
    Comfortable
    80+
    Why
Your main damage for most of the fight.
  • Stat
    Magic
    Comfortable
    80+
    Why
Needed for the phases and orbs where magic is the better option.
  • Stat
    Hitpoints
    Comfortable
    80+
    Why
Higher raid levels increase his damage substantially.
  • Stat
    Prayer
    Comfortable
    74+
    Why
Rigour and Augury shorten the fight and reduce total damage taken.
  • Stat
    Attack / Strength
    Comfortable
    80+
    Why
If your setup uses a melee option during specific phases.

Gear Setups: Budget, Mid and Best in Slot

Akkha is a switching fight. You want two or three usable styles rather than one very strong style, because his elemental forms change which style performs best.

The lightbearer is unusually strong in Tombs of Amascut because of how often special attacks are used across the raid, not just at Akkha.

Inventory and Supplies

Raid inventories are shared budget across every room, so what you bring to Akkha has to survive the rest of the path too.

  • Saradomin brews and super restores as your sustain.
  • Your style switches — at minimum a ranged and a magic option.
  • Ranging and magic potions, or divine variants.
  • A melee switch if your setup uses one for specific phases.
  • Runes for any utility spells your route uses.

Do not spend Akkha's supplies as if he is the last room. If Akkha is your first path boss, you still have the Wardens ahead of you.

Mechanics You Have to Respect

Akkha runs two systems at once: a combat style cycle that dictates your prayer, and an elemental form that dictates which of your styles is most effective. Then the memory phases interrupt both.

Attacks and correct responses
  • Mechanic
    Style cycling
    What it does
Akkha rotates between melee, ranged and magic attacks after a set number of attacks.
    Correct response
Switch your protection prayer to match. Count his attacks rather than reacting late.
  • Mechanic
    Elemental forms
    What it does
Akkha's form changes which of your attack styles is most effective against him.
    Correct response
Switch your weapon to match his current form, not just your prayer.
  • Mechanic
    Memory phases
    What it does
At health thresholds Akkha becomes untargetable and shadow orbs appear around the chamber.
    Correct response
Attack the orbs in the order they were displayed. Getting it wrong costs damage, not the run.
  • Mechanic
    Quadrant special
    What it does
Akkha fires along a cross or X pattern across the chamber floor.
    Correct response
Move to the safe quadrant before it resolves rather than trying to out-heal it.
  • Mechanic
    Akkha's Shadow
    What it does
A shadow copy adds pressure during parts of the fight.
    Correct response
Handle it as your team assigned; ignoring it stacks damage you did not budget for.
  • Mechanic
    Invocation scaling
    What it does
Higher raid levels increase his health, damage and mechanic severity.
    Correct response
Lower your invocations while learning. Reward is not worth a failed raid.

Exact attack counts before each style switch and the orb ordering rules get tuned, so verify current behaviour on the OSRS Wiki Akkha page.

Phase-by-Phase Strategy

Akkha is best learned in two passes: first learn to survive the style cycle, then learn to do the memory phases quickly.

  1. Enter with your ranged setup equipped and a protection prayer already active.
  2. Count Akkha's attacks and switch protection prayer when his style changes.
  3. Watch his elemental form and switch your own weapon to the style it is weakest to.
  4. When the quadrant special telegraphs, move to the safe area first and resume damage after.
  5. At each memory phase, note the orb order as it is displayed before attacking anything.
  6. Attack the orbs in that order. If you lose the sequence, take the damage and reset your focus rather than guessing repeatedly.
  7. Deal with Akkha's Shadow according to your team's assignment.
  8. Repeat through each health threshold until he dies, then move on with supplies intact.

Learners should deliberately run low invocations for their first several Akkha kills. The mechanics are identical at low raid level, just survivable.

Solo Versus Team

Akkha scales with raid size. In a team, mechanics can be split — one player calls orb order while others handle damage — which makes learning far easier.

Solo Akkha is entirely reasonable at low invocations and is the standard way most players learn Tombs of Amascut, because nothing depends on a stranger's attention.

The rest of the raid's rooms and bosses are covered in the Tombs of Amascut guide, and the other path bosses each have their own guide.

Common Mistakes and What Actually Kills You

Akkha deaths are almost always a switching failure or an invocation choice made for reward rather than survival.

  • Switching prayer but not weapon, so damage stalls while his form resists you.
  • Attacking orbs before the order finishes being displayed.
  • Guessing repeatedly at the orb order instead of accepting one hit and re-focusing.
  • Standing in the quadrant special because you wanted one more attack.
  • Running high invocations while still learning the style cycle.
  • Spending all supplies at Akkha and arriving at the Wardens empty.
  • Bringing only one combat style into a fight built around switching.
  • Ignoring Akkha's Shadow because you are focused on the boss.

Drops Worth Knowing

Akkha does not have a personal drop table. Like every ToA path boss, he contributes points toward the raid's shared unique roll.

Notable drops
  • Drop
    Raid points
    Why it matters
Your points determine your chance at a ToA unique at the end of the raid.
  • Drop
    Tumeken's shadow
    Why it matters
The raid's headline magic weapon, rolled from the raid table.
  • Drop
    Masori armour
    Why it matters
Best-in-slot ranged armour, rolled from the raid table.
  • Drop
    Osmumten's fang
    Why it matters
A strong melee weapon particularly good against high-defence targets.
  • Drop
    Lightbearer
    Why it matters
Halves special attack regeneration time; excellent across all PvM.
  • Drop
    Elidinis' ward
    Why it matters
    A magic shield upgrade path.

Combat Achievements

Akkha's Combat Achievement tasks are built around clean mechanic execution: completing memory phases without a mistake, avoiding quadrant special damage, and killing him at higher raid levels.

Because ToA lets you choose difficulty through invocations, these tasks are plannable. Clear him comfortably first, then raise raid level with a specific task in mind.

Ironman Notes

For an Ironman, Tombs of Amascut is one of the most valuable pieces of content in the game, and Akkha is usually the first path learned because his mechanics are readable.

ToA is supply-hungry, so brews and restores are the real constraint. Build a Herblore and Farming base before treating ToA as a grind rather than an occasional run.

Masori and Osmumten's fang are both untradeable-in-practice upgrades for an iron, which makes low-invocation solo runs a genuinely good use of time.

FAQ

Do I switch prayer or weapon against Akkha?

Both, and they are separate decisions. His attack style tells you which protection prayer to use; his elemental form tells you which of your weapons to attack with.

How do the memory orbs work?

At health thresholds Akkha becomes untargetable and orbs light up in a sequence. Attack them in that order. Getting it wrong costs damage rather than ending the run.

Is Akkha a good first ToA boss?

Yes. His mechanics are visible and his punishments are damage rather than instant death, which makes him the standard place to learn the raid.

What invocations should I use while learning?

As few as you need. Mechanics are identical at low raid level, so learn them cheaply and raise the level once kills are consistent.

Can I solo Akkha?

Yes, and most players do. Solo ToA at low invocations is the normal learning path.

Does Akkha drop anything himself?

No. He contributes points toward the raid's unique roll, which is decided at the end of the run.

Bottom Line

Akkha is two switching problems stacked on a memory test. Prayer follows his attack style, your weapon follows his elemental form, and the orbs follow the order you were shown.

Learn him at low invocations, where every mechanic is present but survivable, and raise raid level only once your switches are automatic.

If ToA uniques are the goal and learning the raid is the blocker, our PvM team runs it hand-done at the scale you need.
