OSRS Runecrafting Money Making Guide: Runes That Pay — Bils Services

Runecrafting money making for mains and planners: which rune paths to evaluate, how to set up trips, and how to calculate profit when essence and rune prices move.

Overview

Runecrafting money making is a pure margin skill: essence in, runes out, GE in the middle. When prices align it funds accounts; when they do not, it is still XP with salvageable outputs.

This page is the money lens. For level routes, pouches and training structure, use the Runecrafting 1–99 guide. Guardians of the Rift and blood/soul content change the math — always re-check the Wiki.

Do not memorise a GP/hour from a YouTube thumbnail. Memorise the cost stack and re-price it.

Setup

Setup is capacity and pathing. A pretty outfit that does not carry essence is cosplay.

  1. Choose the rune or activity whose current Wiki money page looks healthy.
  2. Price pure/daeyalt/guardian essence options you actually use.
  3. Repair or replace pouches before a long session.
  4. Set a bank preset: essence, teleports, pouch set, stamina if needed.
  5. Do one unpaid practice lap to confirm the click order.

Route and Process

Altar methods are bank → fill → altar → bank. Minigames replace the altar step with points and rewards — still calculate like a business.

  1. Fill every essence slot you planned to use.
  2. Take the same route every trip; experimentation belongs in a test session.
  3. Craft, bank runes, repair pouches on schedule.
  4. Sell runes in batches sized so you do not crash your own undercut.
  5. After updates that touch Runecraft, re-price before another marathon.

Costs to Subtract

Essence cost is the whole game for mains. Forget it and you will craft at a loss while celebrating XP.

  • Essence purchase cost (or gather time on iron)
  • Pouch repair costs / NPC fees where applicable
  • Stamina or other energy costs
  • Teleport runes/tabs
  • GE tax on rune sales

How to Calculate Realistic Profit

Profit per hour = (runes sold − essence − fees − consumables) / hours, using your trip count.

  1. Buy or value essence at the price you can actually fill.
  2. Count runes crafted over a timed block.
  3. Sell or value at realistic offers.
  4. Subtract repairs, teleports and tax.
  5. If GotR or another minigame: value rewards you will sell, ignore cosmetic bait in the profit line.

Ironman Relevance

RC money on iron is rune stock for Magic and bargains later. Blood and soul progression is account infrastructure.

Pair with the training guide; do not expect main craft margins.

Common Mistakes

The expensive Runecraft mistake is scaling a loss-making rune because the XP felt productive.

  • Ignoring essence price spikes
  • Running damaged pouches half the session
  • Mixing XP-only methods into a "money" spreadsheet
  • Abyss or Wilderness routes without accepting PK risk — see Wilderness money
  • Never reading the 1–99 RC guide for pouch order

When to Move On

Exit conditions matter as much as the method itself. Switch when one of these is true:

  • Timed profit is negative after essence and tax for several checks.
  • Another skill's live margin beats RC at your attention level.
  • You only need XP — switch to the training guide's fastest route and stop calling it money making.

FAQ

What rune is best money?

Whichever the live Wiki money-making pages show as healthy for your level and essence type. It changes.

Is Guardians of the Rift good GP?

It can be, and it teaches pouches. Value the rewards you sell after a real session; do not assume peak rates.

Should I buy daeyalt?

Only if the XP or rune output still wins after the premium — calculate, do not vibe.

Does lavas still matter?

As a training touchstone historically — for money, always re-check current pages rather than nostalgia.

Bottom Line

Runecrafting pays when essence and rune prices leave a real margin after tax and repairs. Time your own trips.

Use the 1–99 guide for XP structure; use the Wiki for live money tables.
