OSRS A Taste of Hope Guide: Requirements and Walkthrough — Bils Services

A Taste of Hope is the Experienced Myreque quest that looks gentle on paper and ends in a nasty boss. Medium length, blisterwood pathing, and a finale that wants 60+ melee comfort.

Overview

A Taste of Hope continues the Myreque war after Darkness of Hallowvale. It is Experienced and Medium, but the wiki's own warning is fair: the final fight is much harder than the listed requirements suggest.

You operate out of Ver Sinhaza and Meiyerditch laboratories, stitching hope back into a battered resistance. Expect running, stamina use, and item crafting steps before the combat exam.

Complete this on the road to Sins of the Father and Theatre content. Skipping it leaves the Myreque chain and several Morytania unlocks unfinished.

Items to Bring

Pack required items before the first travel segment. Recommended gear is comfort, not a hard gate, unless a fight forces a specific style.

Required

  • 1,000 coins (More if taking Andras' boat from the Ectofuntus, 10,000 each trip)
  • Knife or sickle
  • Emerald
  • Chisel
  • Either:
  • 3 air runes, 1 cosmic rune, and having your magic set to the standard Spellbook
  • An enchant emerald or jade tablet
  • Rod of ivandis (obtainable during the quest)
  • Pestle and mortar (obtainable during the quest)
  • Vial of water (obtained during the quest)
  • Weapons and armour

Recommended

  • Combat 70
  • Pickaxe (can be obtained during the quest)
  • Stamina potion and weight-reducing clothing
  • Explorer's ring for the run-energy regeneration function
  • Morytania legs 3 or 4 or another means of reaching Burgh de Rott quickly to reach Meiyerditch
  • Alternatively: An ectophial and an additional 10,000 coins per trip for taking Andras' boat ride from Port Phasmatys
  • Consider the Shades of Mort'ton minigame teleport as well.
  • Restore potion or super restore to restore stats during the abomination fight.

Ultimate Ironmen should split heavy deliveries across trips where the Wiki notes that is allowed.

Where to Start

Starting location: Talk to Garth in Ver Sinhaza by the entrance to the Theatre of Blood.

Use the travel method that fits your unlocks — games necklace, fairy rings, spirit trees, carpets, or spellbook teleports — and keep a teleport out for deaths during combat sections.

Quest List blurb (paraphrased intent): For many years, the Myreque have fought back against the reign of the Drakans. To many, they act as a glimmer of hope in an otherwise miserable existence. In recent times, the Myreque have been beset by disaster, with numerous members meeting a gruesome end at the hands of Vanstr…

Walkthrough, Stage by Stage

Numbered steps follow the Wiki quick-guide order, rewritten for BILS readers. Dialogue choices that gate progress are called out inline. For puzzle tiles or randomised layouts, use the dedicated puzzles section and the Wiki map if a step still feels unclear.

  1. Starting out. Speak to Garth (dialogue: Yes please.).
  2. Travel to the Myreque Hideout in Meiyerditch, the following method can be used to arrive there quickly:
  3. From the Theatre of Blood, go through the western exit into Meiyerditch.
  4. Speak to a nearby Vyrewatch and ask to be sent to the mines.
  5. Mine 15 Daeyalt ores and place them in the nearby minecart. After this, speak to a Vampyre Juvinate to leave. If you have no pickaxe, talk to a miner to obtain a bronze one.
  6. You will appear up on the surface. On the right is a map of the route to take to get to the hideout; follow the blue path down to the leftmost green dot.
  7. Climb up the ladder in the house with the green dot, jump east to the floorboards, and climb down the stairs into the house with the rightmost green dot.
  8. Walk south-east and push the wall to pass through.
  9. Press the decorated wall and then open the lumpy rug south-east of it to reveal a hidden trapdoor.
  10. Climb down the trapdoor and speak to Safalaan in the north part of the underground base.
  11. Return to the Theatre of Blood.
  12. Vampyric Espionage. Attempt to climb up the rubble west of the bank, within Ver Sinhaza.
  13. Speak to Harpert west of the bank and pay him 1,000 coins (dialogue: Fine, here's the money.).
  14. Climb the rubble.
  15. Climb the steam vent directly to the north-east when it is inactive.
  16. Players may take damage from the boiling hot steam that comes out from the vents. Some food may be necessary for lower level players.
  17. Run to the north and jump off the roof.
  18. Continue north and climb up the third vent.
  19. Run east and climb up and down the roof section to cross the gap.
  20. Run east and then south to the red window, look through it. (Be sure you complete the dialogue once the cut-scene is finished, otherwise your quest log won't update. Your health will be restored upon completing the dialogue.)
  21. Continue through the remaining mid-quest objectives in order (see the OSRS Wiki quick guide for the exact mid-section checklist if you get stuck).
  22. Attach the emerald to the sickle to create an emerald sickle (b).
  23. Then, cast Lvl-2 Enchant on the emerald sickle, or use an enchant emerald or jade tablet on it.
  24. Finally, use the chain on the Enchanted emerald sickle (b) or the Rod of Ivandis to create the Ivandis flail.
  25. Speak to Safalaan.
  26. The Taste of Hope. Travel to the Theatre of Blood (run east of Old Man Ral's house and go through the Ver Sinhaza castle walls) and speak to Kael Forshaw by the noticeboard.
  27. Defeat Ranis Drakan.
  28. Ranis Drakan is level 233, and can only be harmed by the Ivandis flail. He will use melee and magic attacks that can hit up to 20. He can also cast Blood Barrage, which can heal him for half of the damage dealt. Occasionally, he will charge an attack and explode, hitting up to 30. The damage can be reduced by running away from him when he is charging the attack.
  29. After he reaches 65% and 25% of his health, he'll summon two level 87 vyrewatch and will fly airborne. He will regularly launch blood bombs at your current square, which can hit up to 30; you can simply walk backwards one square to lure the vyrewatch to the affected square, so the bombs hurt them instead.
  30. After killing them, he will go berserk and attack the player. During this last phase, his attacks are much faster and accurate, but only have a max hit of 6. Using Protect from Melee will easily defeat him in the last phase.
  31. Speak to Kael Forshaw again.
  32. Finishing up. Speak to Safalaan, found in the hideout under Old Man Ral's house.
  33. Finish the closing dialogue — the quest is complete.

If a mid-quest fight sends you to your respawn, return with the same key items — several quests do not store progress for partially completed combat.

Puzzles and How They Work

Puzzle sections in modern quests are often randomised per account. The table below covers the puzzle types you should expect; exact tile solutions belong on the Wiki when they change per player.

Puzzles in this quest

    How it works
Fail-safe by banking food; some obstacles drain run energy only

Skip this section emotionally if the quest is combat-only — still skim for any mid-quest door puzzles.

Boss Fights

Item-loss risk: standard death rules apply unless the quest instance is a safe minigame-style fight. Do not bring items you cannot afford to lose into dangerous multi-combat areas.

Common Mistakes and Warnings

Taste of Hope wipes cluster on the final boss, not the fetch steps.

  • Starting the finale under-geared because skill reqs looked low.
  • Entering Meiyerditch loops without stamina and turning Medium into a marathon.
  • Forgetting a sickle or knife when a step expects one.
  • Banking far away right before a no-bank stretch.
  • Ignoring 43 Prayer comfort and leaking damage through the hard fight.
  • Rushing dialogues in Ver Sinhaza and misplacing the next laboratory beat.

Ironman Notes

Ectophial plus coins for boat travel is still one of the cleanest Ver Sinhaza routes.

Stage pestle, vial and knife before the crafting segments to avoid a second swamp crossing.

Treat the boss like a mid-game gear check even if the quest badge says Experienced.

FAQ

Is the final boss really that hard?

For low combat accounts, yes. Aim for 60+ melee and 43 Prayer.

What comes after this?

Sins of the Father and the wider vampyre endgame, including Theatre unlock quests.

Do I need Darkness of Hallowvale first?

Yes — this is Myreque part four.

How long is it?

Medium, stretched by Meiyerditch navigation if you are new to the city.

Any must-bring utility?

Staminas, a sickle or knife, and a plan to re-enter Ver Sinhaza quickly.

Bottom Line

Budget real boss supplies for the ending, even if the early quest felt like errands.

Myreque progression is mandatory for serious Morytania accounts — services can clear the spike if needed.
