OSRS Darkness of Hallowvale Guide: Requirements and Walkthrough — Bils Services

Darkness of Hallowvale is the long Experienced Myreque entry into Meiyerditch. Agility rooftops, vyrewatch pressure, and a Vanstrom sketch escape that can still kill you.

Overview

Darkness of Hallowvale is Myreque part three: Experienced difficulty, Long length, and the quest that properly introduces Meiyerditch navigation. There is no conventional boss kill, but Vanstrom's sketch sequence is a real death risk.

Most of the time sink is learning walls, floors and Old Man Ral's route culture. A pickaxe shortcut and vyrewatch disguise money are quality-of-life, not flavour.

Finish this before Taste of Hope. Every later vampyre quest assumes you can already move through Meiyerditch without getting lost for twenty minutes.

If the Wiki lists alternate item unlocks instead of a skill (for example a gas mask instead of Slayer), either option is valid.

Items to Bring

Pack required items before the first travel segment. Recommended gear is comfort, not a hard gate, unless a fight forces a specific style.

Required

  • 8 nails
  • 2 planks
  • Hammer
  • Knife (obtainable during the quest) or a sickle
  • Means to cast Telekinetic Grab (air and law rune; both obtainable during the quest)

Recommended

  • Combat 50
  • Stamina or energy potions to traverse through the maze of houses
  • Pickaxe, highly recommended, to take a great shortcut through the city (obtainable during quest)
  • Fast travel to several locations
  • Burgh de Rott to start the quest plus 3 additional trips - Mort'ton teleport, Shades of Mort'ton Minigame Teleport, Morytania legs 3+, or Barrows teleport
  • Paterdomus (1 trip) - Salve Graveyard teleport, fairy ring , or Kharyrll Teleport
  • Varrock (1 trip) - Varrock teleport, runes for this teleport are provided during the quest
  • Vyrewatch outfit (top, legs, and shoes) as disguise against the Vyrewatch, only if your Thieving or Hitpoints are low (can be bought for from Trader Sven during the quest)
  • Armour and some food or Prayer 43+ to use Protect from Melee

Ultimate Ironmen should split heavy deliveries across trips where the Wiki notes that is allowed.

Where to Start

Starting location: Talk to Veliaf Hurtz in the basement of the Burgh de Rott inn.

Use the travel method that fits your unlocks — games necklace, fairy rings, spirit trees, carpets, or spellbook teleports — and keep a teleport out for deaths during combat sections.

Quest List blurb (paraphrased intent): Fighting tooth and nail against the vampyre overlord, Drakan, the Myreque have moved their secret base camp to Burgh de Rott. Now the fight starts in earnest! Veliaf needs someone to make their way into the Sanguinesti region, the eastern side of Morytania cut off from the west b…

Walkthrough, Stage by Stage

Numbered steps follow the Wiki quick-guide order, rewritten for BILS readers. Dialogue choices that gate progress are called out inline. For puzzle tiles or randomised layouts, use the dedicated puzzles section and the Wiki map if a step still feels unclear.

  1. Starting out. Travel to Burgh de Rott.
  2. Speak with Veliaf Hurtz in the pub basement. (dialogue: Is there something I can do to help out? → Yes, please tell me more. → What is the Sanguinesti region? → How can I search for the Sanguinesti order of the Myreque? → Can you tell me about the Sanguinesti Myreque? → How should I get into the Sanguinesti region? → Okay, thanks.)
  3. Go south-east to the docks where there's a hut with a boat in it.
  4. Use a plank on the boat.
  5. Use a plank on the boat chute.
  6. Push the boat down the chute.
  7. Board the boat.
  8. Welcome to Meiyerditch. Go north-west a short distance (still on the pier), search the floor then kick it down and climb down.
  9. Climb over the wall rubble and talk to any Meiyerditch citizen. (dialogue: (whisper) Do you know about the Myreque? → (whisper) I really need to meet the Myreque. → How can Old Man Ral help me?)
  10. Speak with Old Man Ral to the north. (dialogue: Someone said you could help me. → Old Man Ral, the sage of Sanguinesti.)
  11. Climb up the ladder in the building south-west of Old Man Ral.
  12. The sickle logo agility course. Jump south to the floorboards.
  13. Jump east to the floorboards.
  14. Travel to the north-east corner of the room, push the wall and go across the gap.
  15. Crawl under the wall to the north.
  16. Go north to the second room, look on the west side, push the wall and walk across it.
  17. Climb down the ladder.
  18. Search the table next to the wall, open the trapdoor table, and climb into it.
  19. Climb up the shelf.
  20. Crawl under the wall to the east side.
  21. Continue through the remaining mid-quest objectives in order (see the OSRS Wiki quick guide for the exact mid-section checklist if you get stuck).
  22. Return to the Myreque Hideout.
  23. Speak with Safalaan. (dialogue: I have a message for you Safalaan - it may be important.). Afterwards, give him the message.
  24. Locating the laboratory. Exit the base, climb up the stairs, jump the gap, then climb down the ladder
  25. Travel north towards the mine until you find a bright, red and yellow tapestry inside a building adjacent to the Eastern city wall.
  26. Slash the tapestry with your knife.
  27. Walk through it and use the large ornate key on the statue.
  28. Open the door, climb-down the staircase and use Telekinetic Grab on Haemalchemy volume 1.
  29. Note: If needed, runes for Telekinetic Grab can be found in the Broken rune case.
  30. Return to the base and talk to Safalaan one final time and give him Haemalchemy volume 1.
  31. Finishing up. Travel back to Burgh de Rott.
  32. Speak with Veliaf Hurtz in the pub basement. (dialogue: I have a message for you from Safalaan.)
  33. Finish the closing dialogue — the quest is complete.

If a mid-quest fight sends you to your respawn, return with the same key items — several quests do not store progress for partially completed combat.

Puzzles and How They Work

Puzzle sections in modern quests are often randomised per account. The table below covers the puzzle types you should expect; exact tile solutions belong on the Wiki when they change per player.

Puzzles in this quest
  • Puzzle
Light / mirror / beam puzzles
    Type
    Spatial
    How it works
Rotate emitters until the beam hits the target; reset if you over-rotate
  • Puzzle
    Agility / pathing sections
    Type
    Movement
    How it works
Fail-safe by banking food; some obstacles drain run energy only
  • Puzzle

    Conversation
    How it works
Pick the options listed in the walkthrough — wrong branches usually loop safely
  • Puzzle

    How it works
Correct prayer or attack style matters more than DPS

Skip this section emotionally if the quest is combat-only — still skim for any mid-quest door puzzles.

Boss Fights

Combat encounters listed on the Wiki quest-details block. Death usually means a run-back with lost unprotected items outside safe instances — check each fight before you commit expensive gear.

Every fight in the quest
  • Fight
None - however, Vanstrom Klause needs to be fought until he has attacked you 5 times , and it is very possible to die. However, death can be avoided if you pray protect from melee right after you draw the third sketch.

Item-loss risk: standard death rules apply unless the quest instance is a safe minigame-style fight. Do not bring items you cannot afford to lose into dangerous multi-combat areas.

Common Mistakes and Warnings

Hallowvale fails are navigation and the sketch escape.

  • Speaking to citizens at full volume instead of whispering about the Myreque.
  • Skipping the pickaxe shortcut and massively extending city travel.
  • Drawing the third sketch without Protect from Melee ready for Vanstrom.
  • Under-bringing planks, nails and a hammer for the required build steps.
  • Paying vyrewatch the hard way with low Thieving and no outfit plan.
  • Trying to tank Meiyerditch like a combat dungeon instead of a route puzzle.

Ironman Notes

Budget coins for a vyrewatch outfit if your Thieving is low — deaths and tithe hassle cost more.

Pickaxe is semi-mandatory QOL; obtain one before you live in the city maze.

Practise the wall route once with empty hands before you carry quest-build items.

FAQ

Is there a boss?

Not a full kill — Vanstrom must attack you enough times during the sketch escape, and he can kill you.

Why is this quest Long?

Meiyerditch. The city is the content.

What does it unlock?

Deeper Myreque access and the path into Taste of Hope.

Do I need high combat?

Around 50 combat is the comfort note; agility patience matters more.

Any dialogue trap?

Whisper to citizens about the Myreque — normal speech fails the approach.

Bottom Line

Learn Meiyerditch once with a pickaxe and stamina, then the rest of the Myreque chain gets dramatically easier.

If the city maze is the blocker, services can carry the Long segment cleanly.
