OSRS Fairytale II Guide: Requirements and Walkthrough

Fairytale II unlocks fairy rings partway through — you do not need the full quest finish for ring travel. Experienced, Medium, and one of the highest QOL unlocks in the game.
Overview
Fairytale II - Cure a Queen continues the fairy series and is famous for a mid-quest fairy ring unlock. Experienced difficulty, Medium length, Dramen or Lunar staff required.
Many accounts stop at the ring unlock for progression reasons, then return later for full completion and POH fairy ring support. Both approaches are valid if you know which skills gate the ending.
This is less a combat story and more a network unlock. Treat it like installing transport infrastructure on your account.

Requirements and Prerequisites
Skill and quest gates below are taken from the OSRS Wiki quest-details block for this quest. Boostability notes follow the Wiki markers — if a level is unboostable, train it before you start.

Quest prerequisites (chains can be longer than this summary):
- Fairytale I - Growing Pains — verify chain on the Wiki
- Lost City — verify chain on the Wiki
- Nature Spirit — verify chain on the Wiki
- The Restless Ghost — verify chain on the Wiki
- Priest in Peril — verify chain on the Wiki
- Note: The following skill levels are required to complete the quest. These skills are not required to unlock access to fairy rings, for which you only need to progress the quest up to a certain point. However, building fairy rings in the player-owned house requires full quest completion. — verify chain on the Wiki
If the Wiki lists alternate item unlocks instead of a skill (for example a gas mask instead of Slayer), either option is valid.
Items to Bring
Pack required items before the first travel segment. Recommended gear is comfort, not a hard gate, unless a fight forces a specific style.
Required
- Dramen or Lunar staff
- Vial of water
- Pestle and mortar
- Nuff's certificate (obtained during quest)
Recommended
- Combat 55
- Combat equipment and some food
- Restore potion
- Teleportation to any fairy ring (such as the Salve graveyard teleport, Ardougne cloak, or Slayer ring)
Ultimate Ironmen should split heavy deliveries across trips where the Wiki notes that is allowed.
Where to Start
Starting location: Talk to Martin the Master Gardener by the pig pen in Draynor Village.
Use the travel method that fits your unlocks — games necklace, fairy rings, spirit trees, carpets, or spellbook teleports — and keep a teleport out for deaths during combat sections.
Quest List blurb (paraphrased intent): The Fairy Queen should be awake and back in charge of the Lost City by now, but what is happening in Zanaris? Why hasn't the Fairy Godfather abdicated the throne? What is happening to all the fairy inhabitants and where has Fairy Nuff gone? Can you rise to the challenge of using …
Walkthrough, Stage by Stage
Numbered steps follow the Wiki quick-guide order, rewritten for BILS readers. Dialogue choices that gate progress are called out inline. For puzzle tiles or randomised layouts, use the dedicated puzzles section and the Wiki map if a step still feels unclear.
- Unlocking Fairy Rings. Take all required items with you.
- Speak with Martin the Master Gardener in the Draynor Market. (dialogue: Quest.)
- Note: Do not pickpocket Martin or you won't be able to continue for 10 minutes of in-game time.
- Wait 5 minutes (Real World Time) and speak to Martin the Master Gardener again. (dialogue: Quest. → I suppose I'd better go see what the problem is then.)
- Now make your way to Fairy Nuff's grotto in Zanaris just north of the bank.
- Take Nuff's Healing certificate off the floor, right-click it and study it. (If lost, you can obtain another Healing certificate by searching the Potion shelves in Fairy Nuff's grotto.)
- Head to the south-west area of Zanaris, read the Rune temple sign just south of the Cosmic Altar.
- Speak with the Fairy Godfather in the throne room. (dialogue: Where is the Fairy Queen? → Where could she have been taken to? → Yes, okay.)
- Speak with the Co-ordinator just north of the throne room. (dialogue: The fairy rings.) You can now use the fairy rings.
- Speak with Fairy Fixit near the fairy ring west of the throne room. (dialogue: Why are you carrying that toolbox?)
- Curing the Queen. Now, equip your Dramen staff, and teleport using the fairy ring in this sequence: , , (You will not go anywhere), - (Note: You can right click configure but you must have the Nuff's certificate in your inventory)
- Speak with Fairy Nuff and Fairy Very Wise in the NE corner of the area.
- Go back to Zanaris ( ) and pickpocket the Fairy Godfather while he and his henchmen aren't looking.
- Go back to the hideout and give the Queen's secateurs to Fairy Nuff. ( , , , )
- Note: Do not mix the magic essence potion before learning how to make it from the Fairy or it will not revive the Fairy Queen when used on her.
- Travel to fairy code . Wait here (2-5 mins) until a star flower has grown then pick it. (You must have Nuff's certificate with you for this to work.)
- Travel to fairy code . Kill a gorak and pick up its gorak claws. Goraks can be safespotted using some terrain.
- Return to the hideout. ( , , , )
- Speak with Fairy Nuff.
- Now use the star flower on your vial of water and grind the gorak claws to receive gorak claw powder, then use the two items on each other to make a magic essence potion.
- RIGHT-CLICK use the magic essence on the queen, laying on the stretcher near Fairy Nuff.
- Speak with the Fairy Queen to complete the quest.
- Finish the closing dialogue — the quest is complete.
If a mid-quest fight sends you to your respawn, return with the same key items — several quests do not store progress for partially completed combat.
Puzzles and How They Work
Puzzle sections in modern quests are often randomised per account. The table below covers the puzzle types you should expect; exact tile solutions belong on the Wiki when they change per player.
| Puzzle | Type | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Light / mirror / beam puzzles | Spatial | Rotate emitters until the beam hits the target; reset if you over-rotate |
| Agility / pathing sections | Movement | Fail-safe by banking food; some obstacles drain run energy only |
| Dialogue / logic gates | Conversation | Pick the options listed in the walkthrough — wrong branches usually loop safely |
| Combat puzzles | Fight | Correct prayer or attack style matters more than DPS |

Skip this section emotionally if the quest is combat-only — still skim for any mid-quest door puzzles.
Boss Fights
Combat encounters listed on the Wiki quest-details block. Death usually means a run-back with lost unprotected items outside safe instances — check each fight before you commit expensive gear.
| Fight | Attacks with | Pray | What decides the fight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Several Goraks | See fight notes | Match the attack style that works | Preparation and prayer switches |

Item-loss risk: standard death rules apply unless the quest instance is a safe minigame-style fight. Do not bring items you cannot afford to lose into dangerous multi-combat areas.

Common Mistakes and Warnings
Fairytale II confusion is almost always about the partial unlock.
- Thinking you need full quest completion before any fairy ring works.
- Forgetting a Dramen or Lunar staff for ring use.
- Attempting end-quest skill checks before you only needed the mid unlock.
- Losing the Godfather thieves' steps to bad food or bad prayer habits.
- Skipping Fairytale I and wondering why the series will not start.
Ironman Notes
Secure the fairy ring unlock early even if Herblore/Farming for the ending are weeks away.
Staff of the dead substitutes do not replace Dramen/Lunar for rings — bring the real staff.
Combat 55 comfort helps the confrontational mid steps.
FAQ
When do fairy rings unlock?
Partway through the quest — not only at the reward screen.
Do I need to finish the quest for rings?
Not for basic fairy ring travel; full completion matters for extras like POH rings.
What staff do I need?
Dramen or Lunar.
Is this members content?
Yes.
How long to the unlock point?
Much shorter than a full Medium clear — many players stop there first.
