OSRS Throne of Miscellania Guide: Requirements and Walkthrough — Bils Services

Throne of Miscellania unlocks kingdom management. Experienced, Medium, and mostly about approval errands — bring flowers you are willing to lose.

Overview

Throne of Miscellania is the first Miscellania quest: Experienced difficulty, Medium length, and the key that turns the Fremennik isles into a passive resource engine.

Combat is light. The friction is approval tasks, marriage/regency formalities and knowing which flower items actually count. Trollweiss and Farming flowers are classic wrong-item traps.

Complete this before Royal Trouble if you care about kingdom output. The sequel improves the reward profile, but this quest is the on-switch.

Requirements and Prerequisites

Skill and quest gates below are taken from the OSRS Wiki quest-details block for this quest. Boostability notes follow the Wiki markers — if a level is unboostable, train it before you start.

Quest prerequisites (chains can be longer than this summary):

If the Wiki lists alternate item unlocks instead of a skill (for example a gas mask instead of Slayer), either option is valid.

Items to Bring

Pack required items before the first travel segment. Recommended gear is comfort, not a hard gate, unless a fight forces a specific style.

Required

  • Iron bar
  • Any common, non-silver ring (such as a gold ring) that you're willing to lose (not onyx/dragonstone/explorer/beacon/'perfect' ring/nature/pineapple/Charos/fremennik/ancient)
  • At least one of the following to gain favour during the quest
  • to buy flowers from Flower Girl (fastest method, but click intensive)
  • An axe and Woodcutting 45 to cut maple trees (slower, but more AFK than buying flowers manually, since one click yields multiple logs and therefore multiple instances of favour)
  • A rake and Farming 10 to rake flax
  • A pickaxe and Mining 35 to mine coal
  • A harpoon or lobster pot and Fishing 35 to fish tuna, lobsters or swordfish
  • Logs (obtainable during the quest if you bring an axe)

Recommended

  • Flowers you are willing to lose (can be bought from Flower Girl in Miscellania for 15 coins, or you can plant and pick mithril seeds; trollweiss or any of the Farming flowers will not work.)
  • If seeking the Prince's trust: a cake (chocolate cakes work too)
  • If seeking the Princess's trust: a shortbow or longbow (no magic shortbow (i), Seercull, composite, ogre, or training bows) you are willing to lose
  • Weight-reducing clothing
  • Stamina or energy potions
  • Dramen/Lunar staff for fairy rings

Ultimate Ironmen should split heavy deliveries across trips where the Wiki notes that is allowed.

Where to Start

Starting location: Talk to King Vargas in the Miscellania Castle.

Use the travel method that fits your unlocks — games necklace, fairy rings, spirit trees, carpets, or spellbook teleports — and keep a teleport out for deaths during combat sections.

Quest List blurb (paraphrased intent): Rumours have been coming back from Miscellania that all is not well, it is said that the king has been turned into a monster! An exceptional hero is required to investigate. Experience in ruling kingdoms, wooing royalty, and negotiating peace would be an advantage.

Walkthrough, Stage by Stage

Numbered steps follow the Wiki quick-guide order, rewritten for BILS readers. Dialogue choices that gate progress are called out inline. For puzzle tiles or randomised layouts, use the dedicated puzzles section and the Wiki map if a step still feels unclear.

  1. Walkthrough. Grab all the items needed for the quest before you start. You do not need to make bank trips during this quest.
  2. Travel to Miscellania (Either go to Rellekka middle dock to travel by sailor or fairy code: )
  3. If you do not have flowers yet, buy some from the Flower Girl in the castle courtyard for 15gp.
  4. Speak with King Vargas on the of the south-west castle. (dialogue: )
  5. The next part of the quest varies on which character is chosen by the player. Press the appropriate button.
  6. Speak with Princess Astrid in the room directly north of the King. Continue to speak with her each time the dialogue box closes, until the dialogue is just "Good Day".
  7. "Archery is a noble art!"
  8. "He's been very helpful"
  9. "Hahahaha"
  10. Use the flowers on the princess (You will not get them back)
  11. Now use the dance emote inside her room
  12. Keep speaking with her, choosing the flattering options (see below) until the dialogue is just "Good Day".
  13. "That sounds like a good idea."
  14. "What happened next?"
  15. "I'm quite fond of it myself"
  16. "And what a great bard he makes!"
  17. "I suppose you don't have much opportunity to."
  18. "It's a lovely little country."
  19. Use the bow in your inventory on her (you will not get it back)
  20. Speak with her again
  21. Continue through the remaining mid-quest objectives in order (see the OSRS Wiki quick guide for the exact mid-section checklist if you get stuck).
  22. Take the treaty back to King Vargas
  23. Leave the castle and head north to the anvil symbol
  24. Speak with Derrik with an iron bar in your inventory (dialogue: ) to receive a giant nib
  25. Use the giant nib on the logs in your inventory to create a Giant pen
  26. Return to the King
  27. Buy Mixed flowers from Flower Girl. (This is the fastest but most click-intensive method, as each flower must be bought individually through dialogue. Exactly 1,875 GP is needed to go from the base 25% approval to the 75% minimum)
  28. Rake the herbs and flax outside the palace walls. (World hopping does NOT reset the patches, however weeds respawn in approximately 1 minute.)
  29. Mine coal on the north side of Miscellania.
  30. Chop maple trees in the centre of Miscellania.
  31. Fish tuna, lobsters, or swordfish by the docks of Miscellania.
  32. Speak with King Vargas once at 75%
  33. Finish the closing dialogue — the quest is complete.

If a mid-quest fight sends you to your respawn, return with the same key items — several quests do not store progress for partially completed combat.

Puzzles and How They Work

Puzzle sections in modern quests are often randomised per account. The table below covers the puzzle types you should expect; exact tile solutions belong on the Wiki when they change per player.

Skip this section emotionally if the quest is combat-only — still skim for any mid-quest door puzzles.

Boss Fights

This quest may be light on named bosses. Still expect combat or dangerous NPCs in places — read kill warnings on the Wiki if your account is low combat.

Common Mistakes and Warnings

Miscellania mistakes are item and approval mistakes.

  • Bringing Farming flowers or trollweiss instead of valid courtship flowers.
  • Burning approval on the wrong activities and stalling the regency checks.
  • Forgetting Fremennik Trials completion before you sail over with a plan.
  • Treating the quest as optional fluff despite daily resources sitting behind it.
  • Leaving for Royal Trouble without understanding how approval and coffers work.

Ironman Notes

Flower Girl on Miscellania sells usable flowers cheaply if mithril seeds are awkward.

Keep a small coin stack for island odds and ends during approval chores.

Plan Royal Trouble soon after — the upgraded kingdom is the real iron prize.

FAQ

What does Throne of Miscellania unlock?

Managing the Miscellania/Etceteria kingdom for passive resources.

Do flowers from Farming patches work?

No — use valid quest flowers such as mithril-seed flowers or the Flower Girl stock.

Is combat required?

Barely; this is an approval and story quest.

Should I do Royal Trouble next?

Yes, if you want the improved kingdom rewards.

How long is it?

Medium with decent Fremennik travel.

Bottom Line

Unlock the kingdom, protect your approval, then move into Royal Trouble for the upgraded payout.

One of the best passive-progression quests in the game for the time invested.
