OSRS The Fremennik Isles Guide: Requirements and Walkthrough — Bils Services

The Fremennik Isles is the Experienced bridge between Trials and later Fremennik content. Medium length, ice troll chores, and the Neitiznot helm unlock path.

Overview

The Fremennik Isles continues after The Fremennik Trials with Jatizso and Neitiznot politics. Experienced difficulty, Medium length, and a clean combat recommendation around 50.

You will kill ice trolls, juggle island rivalries and collect materials for shields and armour pieces. A Neitiznot shield equipped early makes the northern island ranged trolls dramatically less annoying.

This quest feeds The Fremennik Exiles and broader Fremennik diaries. Do it while you are already in the region for Lunar or Trials errands.

Requirements and Prerequisites

Skill and quest gates below are taken from the OSRS Wiki quest-details block for this quest. Boostability notes follow the Wiki markers — if a level is unboostable, train it before you start.

Quest prerequisites (chains can be longer than this summary):

If the Wiki lists alternate item unlocks instead of a skill (for example a gas mask instead of Slayer), either option is valid.

Items to Bring

Pack required items before the first travel segment. Recommended gear is comfort, not a hard gate, unless a fight forces a specific style.

Required

  • A raw tuna (obtainable during quest, with 35 fishing or bought from the shop)
  • Either 8 tin ores, 7 pieces of coal, or 6 mithril ores (depends on your Mining level; level 1 will require tin ore, 2-54 will require coal, and 55-99 require mithril ore). Note: The ores can be noted.
  • 9 ropes (obtainable during quest with Crafting 30)
  • If the Neitiznot shield is already purchased, only 8 ropes are required.
  • A knife
  • 8 split logs (obtainable during the quest with 56 Woodcutting and an axe)
  • a Neitiznot shield (or 56 Woodcutting, a hammer and a bronze nail)
  • Yak-hide armour top and legs (or 46 Crafting, a needle and two thread, or a costume needle)
  • 5000 coins (optional)
  • Silly jester costume (obtained during quest)

Recommended

  • Combat 50
  • Agility 40 (boostable) to optionally go to the Central Fremennik Isles mine
  • Prayer 43 for Protect from Melee
  • A Catspeak amulet for amusing dialogue during the initial conversation with Jatizso's king
  • Food/armour at all times (in case you get attacked by trolls on the northern island)
  • Prayer potions - as there is no altar close by
  • Good combat equipment to kill 10 low-Defence, high-Attack monsters, and one level 122
  • A melee weapon and decent melee stats - as the Ice Troll King has very high Ranged and Magic Defence
  • An emergency teleport

Ultimate Ironmen should split heavy deliveries across trips where the Wiki notes that is allowed.

Where to Start

Starting location: Talk to Mord Gunnars at the northernmost dock of Rellekka.

Use the travel method that fits your unlocks — games necklace, fairy rings, spirit trees, carpets, or spellbook teleports — and keep a teleport out for deaths during combat sections.

Quest List blurb (paraphrased intent): Sibling rivalry can get messy - more so when the siblings are Fremennik princes with a point to prove. The islands of Jatizso and Neitiznot were set up by two brothers who hated each other, and they have been at loggerheads ever since. But now there is a new threat from trolls in…

Walkthrough, Stage by Stage

Numbered steps follow the Wiki quick-guide order, rewritten for BILS readers. Dialogue choices that gate progress are called out inline. For puzzle tiles or randomised layouts, use the dedicated puzzles section and the Wiki map if a step still feels unclear.

  1. The jester outfit. Speak with Mord Gunnars at the most northern dock in Rellekka to be taken to Jatizso. (dialogue: Can you ferry me to Jatizso?)
  2. Speak with King Gjuki Sorvott IV in the checkered floor room. His cat will intervene.
  3. Use the raw tuna on the King's cat.
  4. Speak to the King.
  5. Give him the required ores.
  6. Take all four pieces of the jester outfit from the chest behind the king's throne.
  7. Quick travel back to Rellekka via Mord Gunnars at the docks to the south.
  8. The spymaster's first task. Quick travel to Neitiznot via Maria Gunnars on the docks next to Mord.
  9. Remove anything from your weapon and shield slots and put on the Jester outfit (hat, boots, tights, top)
  10. Speak with Slug Hemligssen north of the bank. (dialogue: Free stuff please. → I am ready.)
  11. Speak with Mawnis Burowgar in the building south of the bank.
  12. During the cutscene, follow the commands Mawnis gives using the right-side panel.
  13. Return to Slug Hemligssen. He will give you 2500 coins. (dialogue: Yes I have. → They will be ready in two days. → Seventeen militia have been trained. → There are two bridges to repair.),
  14. Bridge repairs. Speak to Mawnis Burowgar again without the Jester Outfit
  15. Speak to Mawnis Burowgar with the ropes, split logs, and knife in your inventory with at least one empty inventory slot.
  16. If you do not have split logs, chop Arctic Pine trees until you have eight logs and use them on the Woodcutting stumps just east of the bank.
  17. If you are crafting your own shield, then cut two extra logs now.
  18. If you do not have any rope, kill yaks outside in the yak pen and spin their hair in the south-easternmost building.
  19. Speak to Thakkrad to learn how to repair the bridges. (dialogue: How do I repair these bridges again?)
  20. Travel north, across the rope bridge and repair the broken bridges on the east and west sides of the island (right-click option to repair).
  21. Continue through the remaining mid-quest objectives in order (see the OSRS Wiki quick guide for the exact mid-section checklist if you get stuck).
  22. Equipping it is actually not required to enter the cave, or to fight the king, but it will heavily reduce damage, thus it is highly recommended.}}Note: This is a multi-combat zone. Melee and Ranged Ice Trolls will attack you.
  23. Make sure to equip the Neitiznot shield.
  24. Use Protect from Melee while running to the east side cave entrance of the farthest north isle.
  25. Enter the cave to start a cutscene.
  26. Speak with Bork Sigmundson to obtain 10 Tuna, 3 Prayer potion (3), and 3 Strength potion (4). If you do not have enough inventory space when you request the items, you will not be able to obtain them again.
  27. Defeat ten trolls, you will see a message saying "You have defeated enough trolls to attack the King."
  28. Turn on Protect from Missiles before crossing the bridge.
  29. Turn on Protect from Magic for the duration of the fight. Kill the troll king. DO NOT use Protect from Melee because King will use the long distance attack as Dad does.
  30. Decapitate the troll king's corpse.
  31. Return to Mawnis Burowgar.
  32. Optional: Make sure to claim the prayer potions from Bork Sigmundson at the entrance.
  33. Finish the closing dialogue — the quest is complete.

If a mid-quest fight sends you to your respawn, return with the same key items — several quests do not store progress for partially completed combat.

Puzzles and How They Work

Puzzle sections in modern quests are often randomised per account. The table below covers the puzzle types you should expect; exact tile solutions belong on the Wiki when they change per player.

Puzzles in this quest

Light / mirror / beam puzzles

    How it works
Fail-safe by banking food; some obstacles drain run energy only

    How it works
Pick the options listed in the walkthrough — wrong branches usually loop safely
  • Puzzle

    How it works
Correct prayer or attack style matters more than DPS

Skip this section emotionally if the quest is combat-only — still skim for any mid-quest door puzzles.

Boss Fights

Combat encounters listed on the Wiki quest-details block. Death usually means a run-back with lost unprotected items outside safe instances — check each fight before you commit expensive gear.

Item-loss risk: standard death rules apply unless the quest instance is a safe minigame-style fight. Do not bring items you cannot afford to lose into dangerous multi-combat areas.

Common Mistakes and Warnings

Isles delays come from unprotected troll runs.

  • Repairing bridges or crossing north without a Neitiznot shield when ranged trolls chunk you.
  • Showing up to the finale without using the supplied potions intelligently.
  • Under-bringing food for the ten ice troll requirement.
  • Skipping Trials and wondering why the islands will not engage.
  • Banking the wrong island and taking boat tax every step.

Ironman Notes

Woodcutting 56 helps craft a Neitiznot shield with bronze nail and hammer if you need one.

The finale provides prayer and strength support — still bring your own food baseline.

Keep Fremennik sea boots / travel tools ready for Exiles afterwards.

FAQ

What is the headline reward?

Progress toward Neitiznot helmet content and Fremennik series continuation.

Do I need The Fremennik Trials?

Yes.

How bad are ice trolls?

Annoying in numbers; the shield cuts ranged max hits hard.

Is this required for Exiles?

Yes — Exiles is later in the same series.

Recommended combat?

Around 50 is comfortable.

Bottom Line

Wear the shield, clear the trolls, and bank the Fremennik series progress while you are north.

Short enough to pair with other Rellekka errands in one session.
