OSRS Lunar Diplomacy Guide: Requirements and Walkthrough

Lunar Diplomacy unlocks the Lunar spellbook. Experienced, Long, and full of ship-crew sequencing, dream challenges and seal-of-passage logistics.
Overview
Lunar Diplomacy is the Fremennik-series Experienced quest that puts Lunar spells on your account. Length is Long because the isle, ship and dream pieces each ask for their own inventory.
The spellbook reward is the point: Vengeance energy, cure spells, and later Dream Mentor expansions all sit behind this diplomacy arc.
Bring a seal of passage mindset even when you think you are done talking to islanders — Lunar Isle etiquette softlocks are still a classic first-timer tax.

Quest prerequisites (chains can be longer than this summary):
- The Fremennik Trials — verify chain on the Wiki
- Lost City — verify chain on the Wiki
- Rune Mysteries — verify chain on the Wiki
- Shilo Village — verify chain on the Wiki
- Jungle Potion — verify chain on the Wiki

If the Wiki lists alternate item unlocks instead of a skill (for example a gas mask instead of Slayer), either option is valid.
Items to Bring
Pack required items before the first travel segment. Recommended gear is comfort, not a hard gate, unless a fight forces a specific style.
Required
- A tinderbox
- A few coins (1,000 is enough)
- A guam leaf (common drop from a Suqah during the quest)
- A marrentill (common drop from a Suqah during the quest)
- A pestle and mortar
- A hammer (or an Imcando hammer)
- A needle (a costume needle will also work) and 2 spools of thread.
- Any axe (bronze axe obtainable during quest)
- Any pickaxe
- A spade
- A finished bullseye lantern (NOT (unf) NOR (empty). If you cannot obtain one, bring Swamp tar to a lamp oil still instead. Swamp tar can be obtained during the quest.)
- All elemental talismans or their respective tiaras (Air, Water, Earth, and Fire, or an Elemental talisman), or access to the Abyss or the Guardians of the Rift minigame
- A dramen staff
- Combat equipment
Recommended
- Combat 50
- Fast travel to Rellekka: Enchanted lyre (obtained during The Fremennik Trials), Fremennik sea boots, Rellekka teleport tablets, fairy ring (code ), or Camelot Teleport and run
- Fast travel to each of the elemental altars (either via the Abyss, the Guardians of the Rift, or to the Air near the Crafting Guild, Fire near the Emir's Arena, Water in Lumbridge Swamp, Earth near the Sawmill)
- Extra dramen staves (if interested in making more lunar staves for free)
- If you cannot obtain a bullseye lantern, bring:
- Teleport to House runes/tablet (if POH is in Rimmington, redirection scrolls if not) or other means to get to Rimmington.
- This is expensive but to save time you can also bring Ring of the elements to teleport to all of the altars as well as use an Elemental tiara to save 8 inventory slots.
Ultimate Ironmen should split heavy deliveries across trips where the Wiki notes that is allowed.
Where to Start
Starting location: Talk to Lokar Searunner at the westernmost dock of Rellekka.
Use the travel method that fits your unlocks — games necklace, fairy rings, spirit trees, carpets, or spellbook teleports — and keep a teleport out for deaths during combat sections.
Quest List blurb (paraphrased intent): Can you make it to Moonclan Island and make peace between the Moonclan and the Fremenniks?
Walkthrough, Stage by Stage
Numbered steps follow the Wiki quick-guide order, rewritten for BILS readers. Dialogue choices that gate progress are called out inline. For puzzle tiles or randomised layouts, use the dedicated puzzles section and the Wiki map if a step still feels unclear.
- Starting out. Speak with Lokar Searunner on the western most Rellekka docks. DKS closest fairy ring. (dialogue: You've been away from these parts a while? → Why did you leave? → Why not, I've always wondered what the state of my innards are!)
- Speak to Brundt the Chieftain in the Longhall for a seal of passage. (dialogue: Ask about a Seal of Passage.)
- Return to Lokar Searunner. (dialogue: Arrr! Yar! Let's be on our way, yar!)
- Climb the ladders, and board the pirate ship. Talk to Captain Bentley about sailing to Lunar Isle. (dialogue: Can we sail to Lunar Isle now?)
- Speak to Captain Bentley again.
- Climb down the nearby south stairs through the door, talk to 'Birds-Eye' Jack.
- Climb back up the stairs and talk to Captain Bentley again. (dialogue: Perhaps it's the Navigator's fault?)
- Climb back down the stairs and return to 'Birds-Eye' Jack again.
- Talking to the crew. Speak with 'Eagle-eye' Shultz at the very front (north-end) of the ship.
- Speak with the Cabin boy up one deck from the captain (south).
- Speak with 'Beefy' Burns on the lowest level of the ship.
- Speak with 'Lecherous' Lee at the very top-rear of the ship.
- Speak with First mate 'Davey-boy', on the deck level, south room.
- Climb back up to the top, talk to the Cabin boy (2 inventory spaces required).
- Searching for clues. Use the emerald lens on the bullseye lantern you brought. Light it with your tinderbox.
- If you didn't bring a lightable lantern, you can make lamp oil in Rimmington and add it to the bullseye lantern (unf) given by the Cabin boy, after using the emerald lens on it. If you lose your emerald lens for any reason, you can ask the Cabin boy for another one.
- If you still own a sapphire lantern from the Tears of Guthix quest, you can use the emerald lens on the sapphire lantern.
- Use the lantern on the following objects, and rub away the symbols:
- Cannon: Eastern cannon a few steps away (same level as Cabin boy).
- Wallchart: Climb down the stairs, southern-most room (on the wallchart north of the long wooden table).
- Continue through the remaining mid-quest objectives in order (see the OSRS Wiki quick guide for the exact mid-section checklist if you get stuck).
- Jump over the Hurdles. If you fail 3 times you will lose the race.
- After you have won talk to the Ethereal Being.
- =Copy cat=. Step on the south-eastern green platform.
- Speak with Ethereal Mimic. (dialogue: Suppose I may as well have a go.)
- Click on him, then copy the emote that he performs. He teleports after each correct emote.
- After 5 correct emotes, he'll teleport you back.
- =Defeating Me=. Speak with the Ethereal Being to begin the final fight. (dialogue: Of course. I'm ready.)
- Defeat Me (level 79, safespottable). (Cannot tele from this area, must kill Me or log out.)
- You cannot equip any different equipment when fighting Me, however you can bring combat runes to make the fight drastically easier. A tome of fire or any shield slot item can be used if equipped before entering the dream.
- Finishing up. Read the lectern to return to Lunar Isle.
- With the seal of passage equipped or in your inventory talk to the Oneiromancer.
- Finish the closing dialogue — the quest is complete.
If a mid-quest fight sends you to your respawn, return with the same key items — several quests do not store progress for partially completed combat.
Puzzles and How They Work
Puzzle sections in modern quests are often randomised per account. The table below covers the puzzle types you should expect; exact tile solutions belong on the Wiki when they change per player.
| Puzzle | Type | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Light / mirror / beam puzzles | Spatial | Rotate emitters until the beam hits the target; reset if you over-rotate |
| Agility / pathing sections | Movement | Fail-safe by banking food; some obstacles drain run energy only |
| Dialogue / logic gates | Conversation | Pick the options listed in the walkthrough — wrong branches usually loop safely |
| Combat puzzles | Fight | Correct prayer or attack style matters more than DPS |

Skip this section emotionally if the quest is combat-only — still skim for any mid-quest door puzzles.
Boss Fights
Combat encounters listed on the Wiki quest-details block. Death usually means a run-back with lost unprotected items outside safe instances — check each fight before you commit expensive gear.
| Fight | Attacks with | Pray | What decides the fight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multiple Suqah | See fight notes | Match the attack style that works | Preparation and prayer switches |

Item-loss risk: standard death rules apply unless the quest instance is a safe minigame-style fight. Do not bring items you cannot afford to lose into dangerous multi-combat areas.

Common Mistakes and Warnings
Lunar fails are sequence fails.
- Talking to ship crew out of the required order.
- Walking Lunar Isle content without a seal of passage when you still need one.
- Under-preparing the combat dream segments.
- Forgetting quest-specific craft items and island-hopping twice.
- Banking the Dramen/Lunar staff when a step still expects it.
- Treating the quest as Short because the reward is a spellbook toggle.
Ironman Notes
Seal of passage stays relevant until elite Fremennik diary relief — do not destroy it mid-quest.
Combat 50 is the comfort recommendation; dream fights still want real food.
Plan Fremennik Trials completion well before you schedule Lunar night.
FAQ
What does Lunar Diplomacy unlock?
The Lunar spellbook.
Is Dream Mentor required after?
Not required to use basic Lunars, but it unlocks additional spells and is on many progression routes.
How long is it?
Long — block time for ship and dream sections.
Do I need a seal of passage?
Yes for relevant Lunar Isle interactions until diary unlocks replace it.
Any sequencing tip?
Follow crew talk order exactly; random order stalls the ship.

Bottom Line
Lunar spellbook is worth the Long quest — just respect crew order and seal rules.
Pair with Dream Mentor soon after if you want the fuller Lunar toolkit.
