OSRS Magic Guide 1–99: Fastest XP, Cheapest Spells and AFK Training — Bils Services

Magic 1–99 guide with bursting/barraging, cheap tele alch methods, AFK splash alternatives, and gear progression for PvM.

Why Magic 1–99 Still Matters

Bils Services offers hand-done Magic training if you would rather outsource the grind. This article stays educational first — use the service link only if it fits your plan.

We have not put XP per hour or supply costs in this guide. Magic rates move whenever Jagex adjusts a method, and the cost of the magic supplies below moves with the Grand Exchange — a frozen number here would mislead you into budgeting the wrong bank. The OSRS Wiki carries live figures.

Magic 1-99 OSRS

Magic 1–99 Level Path

Magic breaks into 5 stages between level 1 and 99. Start at "1–55: quests + enchant/teleport ladder" and read the list as a default rather than a rule — if your goal is fastest rather than AFK, the later stages are where you should deviate.

  1. 1–55: quests + enchant/teleport ladder
  2. 55–75: high alch + tele methods; start planning burst unlocked tiers
  3. 70/75+: bursting dusts / nechs on task for huge XP
  4. 94: Ice barrage milestone mindset for endgame
  5. Gear: ahrim → ancestral → shadow/sang contexts

Fastest XP Methods

Barraging/bursting on suitable Slayer tasks is the XP king.

Thralls + death charge style combat adds XP while PvMing.

Double XP gimmicks are rare — consistency wins.

Cheapest / Budget Approach

High Level Alchemy can be near GP-neutral while training.

Earth/bolt spells on weak monsters for budget early XP.

Do not splash for 99 in 2026 unless you enjoy pain — better cheap methods exist.

AFK & Lower-Intensity Options

True AFK Magic is limited; alching is semi-AFK bankstanding.

Some NMZ setups are AFK-ish with absorb potions.

Bursting is the opposite of AFK — schedule focus blocks.

Practical Tips That Actually Matter

  • Rune pouch / divine rune pouch is a top QoL buy.
  • Tob/Cox magic gear progression should guide your 99 timeline.
  • Lunar/Arceuus spellbooks unlock account-wide efficiency, not just XP.

Ironman Notes

Magic on an Ironman is a Runecrafting problem wearing a different hat. Every casting method consumes runes you have to make or collect, so the practical ceiling on your Magic training is your rune stock rather than your Magic level.

Alching and other rune-heavy methods are usually the wrong first choice for an iron. The routes worth looking at are the ones where the runes come from drops or from a Slayer task you were doing anyway.

When Paid Training Makes Sense

The case for buying Magic rests on what it is blocking. It is a combat skill, so the levels are a gate on content rather than a number on a page. The question is whether the bosses or quests behind it are what you actually want, and whether the levels themselves would have been any fun.

If you do order it, the thing to specify is the route as well as the level range: fastest and cheapest and AFK are different jobs on this skill, with different timelines and different supply bills for the same 99. Our Magic page lists what we need from you, and the work is played rather than botted.

FAQ

Should I alch to 99?

As a supplement, yes. As the only method, it is slow but chill.

Burst without a task?

Usually worse XP and worse etiquette. Get on task.
