OSRS Fletching Guide 1–99: Fastest, Cheapest and Profitable Methods

Fletching 1–99 guide with broad arrows, darts, bows, and profitable vs fastest XP methods — plus ironman-friendly paths.
Why Fletching 1–99 Still Matters
Bils Services offers hand-done Fletching training if you would rather outsource the grind. This article stays educational first — use the service link only if it fits your plan.
We have not put XP per hour or supply costs in this guide. Fletching rates move whenever Jagex adjusts a method, and the cost of the fletching supplies below moves with the Grand Exchange — a frozen number here would mislead you into budgeting the wrong bank. The OSRS Wiki carries live figures.

Fletching 1–99 Level Path
Fletching breaks into 5 stages between level 1 and 99. Start at "1–40: arrow shafts / shortbows ladder" and read the list as a default rather than a rule — if your goal is fastest rather than profitable, the later stages are where you should deviate.
- 1–40: arrow shafts / shortbows ladder
- 40–55/70: maple/yew longbows unfinished or strung depending on prices
- Broad arrows: common AFK-ish members method after slayer unlock
- Darts: fastest bankstanding XP when tips are affordable
- High: magic longbows / redwood / dragon javelins by economics
Tools and Materials Each Method Needs
Fletching has no outfit and no XP-boosting equipment. What it has is a short list of tools, and forgetting one is what turns a bank trip into two.
| Tool or material | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Knife | Cuts logs into unstrung shortbows, longbows and crossbow stocks |
| Bow string | Attaches to an unstrung bow to finish it |
| Hammer | Adds limbs to a crossbow stock before stringing |
| Crossbow string | Finishes an unstrung crossbow |
| Chisel | Needed for the hunters' sunlight crossbow at level 74 |
| Broad arrowheads | Bought with Slayer reward points, not from the Grand Exchange |

The broad arrow path is the one that changes how you play: the heads come from Slayer reward points, so your Fletching supply is capped by how much Slayer you do rather than by your bank.
Fastest XP Methods
Dart fletching is the usual XP rocket.
Broad arrows are slower but kinder to your brain and sometimes GP.
Stringing bows can be fast when stringing presets are clean.
Cheapest / Budget Approach
Buy limits and GE tax decide “profit.” Always sheet it.
Broad arrowheads from slayer points are an iron/main hybrid path.
Unstrung bows can be sold to the shop in some strategies — check live prices.
AFK & Lower-Intensity Options
Fletching is inventory bankstanding — semi-AFK.
Broads are more chill than darts.
Great skill for watching shows while clicking inventories.
Practical Tips That Actually Matter
- Unlock broad arrows/bolts via Slayer rewards early if you like the method.
- Sacred eels / Zulrah scales pipelines matter for some accounts.
- Fletching + WC + FM can share log supply chains.
Ironman Notes
Fletching is the skill that makes your Ranged training possible on an Ironman, so its useful level is set by what ammunition you need rather than by the cape. Get to the arrow or bolt tier your account is using and stop there until something changes.
It is also entirely downstream of Woodcutting, which means the two are best trained as one project. Cutting logs you intend to fletch is faster overall than cutting for XP and then having nothing to fletch.
When Paid Training Makes Sense
The case for buying Fletching rests on what it is blocking. The grind here is mostly a buying-and-clicking exercise, so there is very little you learn by doing it yourself. That makes it a reasonable thing to hand over — and a bad one to hand over before you have priced the materials, since those are usually the larger bill.
If you do order it, the thing to specify is the route as well as the level range: fastest and cheapest and profitable are different jobs on this skill, with different timelines and different supply bills for the same 99. Our Fletching page lists what we need from you, and the work is played rather than botted.
FAQ
Darts or broads to 99?
Darts for speed; broads for comfort/cost control.
Is Fletching profitable in 2026?
Sometimes. Recheck each bracket — never assume last year’s margin.
