OSRS Dream Mentor Guide: Requirements and Walkthrough — Bils Services

Dream Mentor is the Master Lunar Isle quest with an 85 combat start gate. Feed Cyrisus, brew the dream, and clear four low-magic-defence bosses that still hit like trucks.

Overview

Dream Mentor is a Master, Medium-length Fremennik quest on Lunar Isle. The hard requirement people underestimate is combat level 85 to start — no amount of food skips that gate.

You rehabilitate Cyrisus with a long feeding sequence, gather goutweed for the dream potion, then fight a four-boss dream gauntlet. Magic shines because the bosses have very low magic defence.

The reward expands Lunar spells and sits on routes into Dragon Slayer II and other endgame quests. Treat the dream like a proper boss inventory.

Requirements and Prerequisites

Skill and quest gates below are taken from the OSRS Wiki quest-details block for this quest. Boostability notes follow the Wiki markers — if a level is unboostable, train it before you start.

Quest prerequisites (chains can be longer than this summary):

If the Wiki lists alternate item unlocks instead of a skill (for example a gas mask instead of Slayer), either option is valid.

Items to Bring

Pack required items before the first travel segment. Recommended gear is comfort, not a hard gate, unless a fight forces a specific style.

Required

  • A seal of passage
  • 3 different kinds of food: 6 of 1 type and 7 of 2 others for a total of 20 pieces (Sacks of cabbages, potatoes, and onions can be used as they each contain 10 piece of their respective food and only require a total of 3 inventory slots. Fruit baskets also work.)
  • Goutweed
  • An astral rune
  • A tinderbox
  • A hammer
  • A pestle and mortar
  • A good weapon (trident of the seas recommended because they have no magic defence), good armour, good food such as sharks, and super potion sets.

Recommended

  • Stamina or energy restore
  • High-healing food
  • Prayer restoration if combat is involved

Ultimate Ironmen should split heavy deliveries across trips where the Wiki notes that is allowed.

Where to Start

Starting location: Talk to the fallen man in the small cave in the Lunar Isle mine.

Use the travel method that fits your unlocks — games necklace, fairy rings, spirit trees, carpets, or spellbook teleports — and keep a teleport out for deaths during combat sections.

Quest List blurb (paraphrased intent): Gielinor is not the safest place to live - dragons, trolls, demons... dangerous and despicable monsters of all sorts roam free. In this quest, you must help a fellow adventurer that doesn't do so well against these threats. With perseverance and the magical help of the Moon Clan,…

Walkthrough, Stage by Stage

Numbered steps follow the Wiki quick-guide order, rewritten for BILS readers. Dialogue choices that gate progress are called out inline. For puzzle tiles or randomised layouts, use the dedicated puzzles section and the Wiki map if a step still feels unclear.

  1. Helping the fallen man. Travel to Lunar Isle.
  2. Enter the mine in the north-east area of Lunar Isle.
  3. Crawl through the cave entrance ( Quest minimap icon).
  4. Speak with the fallen man, follow the dialogue and close the interface when it appears.
  5. Feed him 4 food, starting with one you have seven of, while cycling through your different foods. Avoid using the same food twice in a row.
  6. Speak with him again. (dialogue: Just don't worry. → Of course.)
  7. Feed him 4 more food as before.
  8. Speak with him and keep reassuring him with positive responses until he sits up (cutscene).
  9. Feed him 6 more food.
  10. Talk again multiple times using positive responses until he stands up (cutscene), and once more after he stands up.
  11. Speak with 'Bird's-Eye' Jack in the bank. (dialogue: Cyrisus in the mine)
  12. Select the following equipment (if your combat level is determined by your melee skills):
  13. Dragon med helm
  14. Abyssal whip
  15. Ahrim's robetop
  16. Ahrim's robeskirt
  17. Ranger boots
  18. Use Astral Contact spell to make sure you get the right things for him.
  19. If your combat level is determined by your magic level, use robin hood hat, dragon chainbody, black d'hide chaps, infinity boots and ancient staff. For ranged use splitbark helm, Karil's leathertop, Torag's platelegs, adamant boots and magic shortbow.
  20. Return and talk to Cyrisus for a cutscene. (dialogue: Talk about the Armament)
  21. Use food on him until his health is at 100%.
  22. Speak with him again multiple times, giving positive responses until you receive a cutscene. If you don't receive it, feed him a couple more times.
  23. Dream potion. Speak with the Oneiromancer at the Astral Altar for a dream vial. (dialogue: Cyrisus.)
  24. (Optional) Change your spellbook as necessary if you wish to use magic in the final fight.
  25. Fill the vial with water, add a goutweed.
  26. Use your hammer on an Astral rune, then grind the shards with a pestle and mortar.
  27. Add your ground astral rune to the dream vial to complete the potion.
  28. Prepare for 4 fights. Prayers and emergency teleports won't work. Do not bank your seal of passage; not even 'Birds-Eye' Jack will serve you without it yet.
  29. Dreamland. Light the Ceremonial Brazier in the dream hall building.
  30. Speak with Cyrisus. (dialogue: Yes, let's go!)
  31. During the fight, you can leave at any time by using the lectern, although this will force you to re-battle any defeated bosses.
  32. Defeat The Inadequacy
  33. Defeat The Everlasting - can be safespotted by the lectern to the north
  34. Defeat The Untouchable - can be safespotted by the lectern to the north
  35. Defeat The Illusive
  36. Return to the Oneiromancer. (dialogue: Cyrisus.)
  37. Finish the closing dialogue — the quest is complete.

If a mid-quest fight sends you to your respawn, return with the same key items — several quests do not store progress for partially completed combat.

Puzzles and How They Work

Puzzle sections in modern quests are often randomised per account. The table below covers the puzzle types you should expect; exact tile solutions belong on the Wiki when they change per player.

Item-loss risk: standard death rules apply unless the quest instance is a safe minigame-style fight. Do not bring items you cannot afford to lose into dangerous multi-combat areas.

Common Mistakes and Warnings

Dream Mentor wipes are usually wrong style or thin food.

  • Trying to start under combat 85.
  • Using sacks of food on Cyrisus without removing items first — they count wrong.
  • Melee-only into the dream when magic would hit far more consistently.
  • Forgetting seal of passage for island logistics.
  • Bringing one food type when Cyrisus needs three kinds across twenty portions.
  • Undersupplying because the quest length says Medium.

Ironman Notes

Grab an extra goutweed if Dragon Slayer II is next on your list.

Trident, Iban, warped sceptre or blood rush styles all work — prioritise reliable magic damage.

Blighted food via a careful PvP-world trick exists for desperate irons, but a normal shark plan is simpler.

FAQ

Is combat 85 boostable?

No — it is a combat level start requirement.

What style should I use in the dream?

Magic is strongly favoured.

How much food for Cyrisus?

Twenty portions across three different food types.

Why do this quest?

Extra Lunar spells and prerequisite value for later grandmasters.

Is it harder than Lunar Diplomacy?

The dream combat is the spike; Diplomacy is longer logistics.

Bottom Line

Hit combat 85, feed Cyrisus correctly, then mage the dream with a real boss inventory.

High-value Magical unlock quest — services make sense if the gauntlet is eating supplies.
