OSRS King's Ransom Guide: Requirements and Walkthrough

King's Ransom closes the Camelot series and unlocks the Knight Waves training ground for Chivalry and Piety. Experienced, Medium, and easy to softlock on evidence items.
Overview
King's Ransom is the Camelot finale: Experienced difficulty, Medium length, and the quest gate for the Knight Waves that unlock Chivalry and Piety.
You investigate the Sinclair disappearance and Morgan le Faye's plot against Arthur's knights. Forty-five Magic is an unboostable requirement on the path — check it before you start gossiping at the mansion.
Accounts that want Piety for melee progression should prioritise this earlier than the quest's modest badge suggests.

- One Small Favour — verify chain on the Wiki

If the Wiki lists alternate item unlocks instead of a skill (for example a gas mask instead of Slayer), either option is valid.
Items to Bring
Pack required items before the first travel segment. Recommended gear is comfort, not a hard gate, unless a fight forces a specific style.
Required
- Granite (any size)
- Telekinetic Grab runes (1 air rune and 1 law rune) (obtainable during the quest)
- Full black armour (black full helm, platebody, and platelegs/plateskirt)—Note: Elite and trimmed versions of black armour will work. (h) versions will not work
- A bronze med helm (can be purchased from Peksa's Helmet Shop in the Barbarian Village, or picked up inside Draynor Manor near the exit)
- An iron chainbody (Both the iron chainbody and the bronze med helm can be bought upstairs in the Warrior Guild Armoury. If you can't access the Warriors' Guild you can get an Iron Chainbody from Wayne's Chains in Southern Falador, Horvik's Armour Shop in central Varrock, or the Grand Exchange)
- Animate rock scroll (obtainable during the quest). Note: if you have it in your bank, either destroy it or take it with you. You won't be able to receive another from Wizard Cromperty otherwise.
Recommended
- A teleport to Ardougne to talk to Wizard Cromperty
- A teleport to Camelot for a quick access to Seers' Village and Camelot
- A combat bracelet, amulet of glory, or Lassar Teleport for fast access to the Black Knights' Fortress.
- A Dramen staff or Lunar staff with code for quick travel to Sinclair Mansion
- Salve graveyard teleports for quick access to fairy ring
Ultimate Ironmen should split heavy deliveries across trips where the Wiki notes that is allowed.
Where to Start
Starting location: Talk to the Gossip outside Sinclair Mansion.
Use the travel method that fits your unlocks — games necklace, fairy rings, spirit trees, carpets, or spellbook teleports — and keep a teleport out for deaths during combat sections.
Quest List blurb (paraphrased intent): Life has been quiet at the Sinclair Mansion since you discovered the murderer... too quiet. So quiet, in fact, that the family has gone! Suspicions are running high that the Sinclairs' recent departure is tied to the disappearance of King Arthur and his knights. But time is runni…
Walkthrough, Stage by Stage
Numbered steps follow the Wiki quick-guide order, rewritten for BILS readers. Dialogue choices that gate progress are called out inline. For puzzle tiles or randomised layouts, use the dedicated puzzles section and the Wiki map if a step still feels unclear.
- Sinclair's Mansion. Grab all the required items at the start. You do not have to make bank trips during this quest.
- Speak with Gossip outside of Sinclair Mansion. (dialogue: )
- Speak with the guard in the courtyard to the north.
- Break into the Smashed Window on the East side of the mansion.
- Grab the Scrap paper in the dining room next to the fire place ( ).
- Go up the stairs to the and then to the library in the centre.
- Take the Address Form off the table and read it.
- Search the bookcase on the Western wall for a Black knight helm.
- Return to the guard via the smashed window.
- Speak to him, using all three options so that he takes each of your three items
- Speak with the Gossip using all three options.
- Anna's Trial. Travel south to the Seer's Village courthouse. (South-East of the bank).
- Speak to Anna. (dialogue: )
- Walk down the stairs to begin the trial.
- For this part you need to speak to the Judge in order to call next witness and then speak to the witnesses to ask them questions.
- Call the Dog Handler as a witness. Ask him about the poison.
- Call the Butler as a witness by speaking to the judge. Ask him about the dagger.
- Call the Maid as a witness. Ask her about the night of the murder.
- Ask the Maid (or anyone else) about the thread.
- (If done correctly Anna should be pronounced not guilty and balloons will fall.)
- Exit the courtroom by clicking on the gate.
- Speak again with Anna in her cell.
If a mid-quest fight sends you to your respawn, return with the same key items — several quests do not store progress for partially completed combat.
Puzzles and How They Work
Puzzle sections in modern quests are often randomised per account. The table below covers the puzzle types you should expect; exact tile solutions belong on the Wiki when they change per player.
| Puzzle | Type | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Light / mirror / beam puzzles | Spatial | Rotate emitters until the beam hits the target; reset if you over-rotate |
| Agility / pathing sections | Movement | Fail-safe by banking food; some obstacles drain run energy only |
| Dialogue / logic gates | Conversation | Pick the options listed in the walkthrough — wrong branches usually loop safely |
| Combat puzzles | Fight | Correct prayer or attack style matters more than DPS |

Skip this section emotionally if the quest is combat-only — still skim for any mid-quest door puzzles.
Boss Fights
This quest may be light on named bosses. Still expect combat or dangerous NPCs in places — read kill warnings on the Wiki if your account is low combat.

Common Mistakes and Warnings
King's Ransom softlocks are evidence and jail-order mistakes.
- Missing scrap paper, address form or black knight helm in Sinclair Mansion.
- Showing up without 45 Magic when the quest needs it.
- Under-preparing the Knight Waves afterquest and dying the prayer unlock.
- Forgetting granite or other iron-specific materials when the guide assumes GE buys.
- Teleporting away mid-evidence collection and losing your item checklist mental model.
- Treating the quest as optional fluff despite Piety sitting behind it.
Ironman Notes
Mining 45 for granite is the common iron note — gather it before the relevant step.
Cromperty and Ardougne teleports save more time than they look like they should.
Budget a real inventory for Knight Waves immediately after quest completion.

Piety. That alone carries the quest's priority.

Bottom Line
Do King's Ransom for the Waves and Piety, not for the story length.
Finish the afterquest the same day so the unlock does not rot on your quest log.
