OSRS Royal Trouble Guide: Requirements and Walkthrough — Bils Services

Royal Trouble upgrades Miscellania after Throne. Experienced, Medium, with a dungeon peek and a fight that wants antipoison more than fancy weapons.

Overview

Royal Trouble is Miscellania part two. King Vargas declares trouble while you are away, and you sort the Etceteria conflict before the kingdom burns its own future. Experienced difficulty, Medium length.

Forty Agility (boostable for the relevant checks) and a mid-quest dungeon segment are the practical hurdles. Bank on Etceteria before the fight so you are not crossing islands under-geared.

The reward is why accounts care: better kingdom management throughput than Throne alone. If you already own the throne, this sequel is high priority.

Requirements and Prerequisites

Skill and quest gates below are taken from the OSRS Wiki quest-details block for this quest. Boostability notes follow the Wiki markers — if a level is unboostable, train it before you start.

Quest prerequisites (chains can be longer than this summary):

If the Wiki lists alternate item unlocks instead of a skill (for example a gas mask instead of Slayer), either option is valid.

Items to Bring

Pack required items before the first travel segment. Recommended gear is comfort, not a hard gate, unless a fight forces a specific style.

Required

  • 5 coal (obtainable during the quest with a pickaxe, which will also be obtainable)
  • 2 rope (obtainable during the quest)
  • 1 plank (obtainable during the quest)

Recommended

  • Combat 50
  • Weapon, armour and some food
  • Superantipoison or any other poison cure
  • Prayer 43 and Prayer potions for protection prayers
  • Stamina or energy potions
  • Multiple charged Rings of Wealth for fast travel to Miscellania

Ultimate Ironmen should split heavy deliveries across trips where the Wiki notes that is allowed.

Where to Start

Starting location: Talk to Advisor Ghrim in Miscellania Castle.

Use the travel method that fits your unlocks — games necklace, fairy rings, spirit trees, carpets, or spellbook teleports — and keep a teleport out for deaths during combat sections.

Quest List blurb (paraphrased intent): It's tough being a regent of a small island kingdom, especially when the king has declared war while you were adventuring. Something is up in Miscellania and Etceteria, so you'd better find out what before both kingdoms end up in royal trouble.

Walkthrough, Stage by Stage

Numbered steps follow the Wiki quick-guide order, rewritten for BILS readers. Dialogue choices that gate progress are called out inline. For puzzle tiles or randomised layouts, use the dedicated puzzles section and the Wiki map if a step still feels unclear.

  1. Stolen goods. Speak to Advisor Ghrim. (dialogue: Has anything been happening in the kingdom recently? → Very well, I'll sort it out.) (fairy ring code )
  2. Speak with Princess Astrid or Prince Brand (depending on who you married), watch the cutscene.
  3. Speak with King Vargas. (dialogue: Right away, your Majesty.)
  4. Speak with Gardener Gunnhild by the flax patch next to the castle entrance.
  5. Speak with Queen Sigrid. (dialogue: Of course, it's my duty.)
  6. Speak with Matilda in/around the southern building inside the castle's walls.
  7. Speak with Queen Sigrid. (dialogue: I suppose so...)
  8. Now is a good time to gear up at the bank at the north part of Etceteria as you won't be coming back here until after the boss fight. Don't forget to take an antipoison to help with the fight. Also take 5 coal or have at least 5 empty spaces. Note: Do not waste time trying to mine coal near Miner Magnus, as you don't actually get any resources. An area to mine coal is provided later on in the quest.}}
  9. The dungeon. Speak with King Vargas.
  10. Speak with Advisor Ghrim. (dialogue: King Vargas asked me to talk to you.)
  11. Speak with the Sailor at the Miscellania docks. (dialogue: I'm looking for a sailor...)
  12. Speak with King Vargas with one open inventory slot to receive a scroll proving you are Regent of Miscellania.
  13. Enter the dungeon, down the ladder in the courtyard (along the castle's south wall).
  14. Speak with Donal in the pub. (dialogue: Of course. Dealing with monsters is what I do best!)
  15. Go north, take a pick (on the rock next to the dwarves) if you need coal.
  16. Use the mining prop on the crevice and proceed through the crevice.
  17. Take an engine and put the 5 coal in it.
  18. Take the following from the crates:
  19. 2 beams.
  20. 3 pulley beams.
  21. 1 rope.
  22. Use a beam on a pulley beam to get a long pulley beam; use another regular beam on it to make a longer pulley beam.
  23. To the broken scaffold add:
  24. A pulley beam.
  25. A longer pulley beam.
  26. A pulley beam.
  27. A rope.
  28. Take:
  29. 1 beam.
  30. 1 rope.
  31. Add a beam to the platform.
  32. Put the engine on the engine platform.
  33. If you haven't yet, add your five coal to the engine.
  34. Use the lift and take the plank.
  35. Enter the tunnel, run east, and use your rope on the rock.
  36. Keep running and make sure to continue through your character's dialogue.
  37. Take the diary from the fire remains.
  38. Use your plank to cross the rocks, be sure to collect all diary pages by searching the four additional fires through the cave.
  39. Continue running and avoid the steam vents as they will damage you.
  40. Read the diary and continue through the crevice, watch the cutscene.
  41. Speak with Armod.
  42. The final battle. Follow the passage north and enter the crevice at the end of the passage
  43. Defeat the Giant Sea Snake. Use protect from ranged prayer and attack at a distance (magic preferred).
  44. Take the heavy box.
  45. Leave the crevice of the boss room and climb up the rope for a shortcut back to Etceteria castle.
  46. Speak with Queen Sigrid to receive a letter and 20000 gold. (You need two free inventory slots.)
  47. Speak with King Vargas.

If a mid-quest fight sends you to your respawn, return with the same key items — several quests do not store progress for partially completed combat.

Puzzles and How They Work

Puzzle sections in modern quests are often randomised per account. The table below covers the puzzle types you should expect; exact tile solutions belong on the Wiki when they change per player.

Skip this section emotionally if the quest is combat-only — still skim for any mid-quest door puzzles.

Boss Fights

Combat encounters listed on the Wiki quest-details block. Death usually means a run-back with lost unprotected items outside safe instances — check each fight before you commit expensive gear.

Item-loss risk: standard death rules apply unless the quest instance is a safe minigame-style fight. Do not bring items you cannot afford to lose into dangerous multi-combat areas.

Rewards and Unlocks

Rewards below summarise the Wiki reward scroll. Experience amounts and unlock text can change with updates — re-check before you plan a grind around them.

Common Mistakes and Warnings

Royal Trouble fails are usually the dungeon supply plan.

  • Entering the fight without antipoison and prayer comfort.
  • Not leaving inventory space for mid-dungeon picks.
  • Skipping the Etceteria bank right before combat.
  • Under-boosting Agility into fails that drain food.
  • Delaying this sequel for months while running a weaker kingdom.
  • Forgetting Throne of Miscellania is mandatory first.

Ironman Notes

Boost Agility with summer pies if you are near 40 rather than grinding a tiny gap.

Antipoison is not optional flavour in the fight segment.

Re-check kingdom settings after completion — the upgrade only helps if coffers and approval stay healthy.

FAQ

What does Royal Trouble add?

Improved Miscellania rewards and the story resolution after Throne.

Is 40 Agility boostable?

Yes for the relevant checks.

Do I need Throne first?

Yes.

How hard is the combat?

Modest if prepared; nasty if you skip antipoison.
