OSRS Scurrius Guide: Best Gear, Mechanics, XP Rates & Drops — Bils Services

Scurrius guide for beginner-friendly boss XP, gear breakpoints, and drop expectations.

Overview: Scurrius at a Glance

Scurrius is a full boss in the beginner boss group, rated 1 out of 5 in our boss index and normally fought solo or team.

There is no skill or quest gate on Scurrius — Varrock sewers. That makes it available far earlier than its difficulty rating suggests, so the limiting factor is your combat stats rather than an unlock.

Beginner XP rates is what this fight actually asks of you, and it is the thing standing between you and scurrius' spine.

Its own attacks are magic, ranged and melee, so Protect from Melee, Missiles and Magic all have a job.

In our index it sits in the beginner boss group at difficulty 1 of 5, where kill times come down to Beginner XP rates.

Location and How to Get There

Scurrius is found in the Varrock Sewers.

Take the manhole south-east of Varrock Castle down into the sewers and follow them to his room. There is no unlock and no item you have to carry, which is why he is the standard first boss for accounts in the 60 to 90 combat range.

Where Scurrius Sits in Progression

Scurrius is the entry point for the beginner boss group, so there is nothing easier here to warm up on. Above it sit Sarachnis.

Fight Strategy: Beginner XP rates

  1. Prayers on before you are in range.
  2. Pray Protect from Melee, Missiles and Magic as it switches.
  3. Its lowest defence bonus is against magic.
  4. Its 4-tick speed punishes greed.
  5. Bank before a 22 can erase you.
  • Excellent mid-level combat XP boss
  • Prioritise survival over tick-perfect DPS
  • Learn rat spawns before greedy setups
  • Recompute XP/hour with YOUR gear
  • Strong bridge into harder solos

Drops and What Scurrius Is Worth

Drops worth the trip: Scurrius' spine, bones for Prayer XP. Whether that is worth your time depends on how many kills an hour you personally get, which is a function of Beginner XP rates rather than of your gear list.

Combat Achievements

Scurrius has Combat Achievement tasks. With a 22 max hit the restrictions are mostly about execution rather than survival.

Task lists move with updates — read the current list in game.

Ironman Notes

Slayer masters who assign Scurrius: Turael, Spria. Each kill is 600 Slayer XP.

Without a Grand Exchange, scurrius' spine, bones for Prayer XP has to be earned rather than bought, and this is the fastest table it sits on.

Common Mistakes and Death Causes

  • Ignoring that excellent mid-level combat XP boss
  • Ignoring that prioritise survival over tick-perfect DPS
  • Ignoring that learn rat spawns before greedy setups
  • Ignoring that recompute XP/hour with YOUR gear
  • Buying an upgrade before Beginner XP rates is consistent
  • Walking in before prayers are on
  • Setting up a cannon it is immune to

FAQ

What do I need to fight Scurrius?

None (Varrock sewers)

Which protection prayer should I use at Scurrius?

It attacks with magic, ranged, melee, so pray against that.

How hard does Scurrius hit?

Max hits of 13 (Melee), 8 (Magic), 7 (Ranged), 22 (Rockfall), with 500 hitpoints.

Can I use a dwarf multicannon at Scurrius?

No. It is immune to cannon damage.

Where is Scurrius and how do I get there?

The Varrock Sewers. Take the manhole south-east of Varrock Castle down into the sewers and follow them to his room. There is no unlock and no item you have to carry, which is why he is the standard first boss for accounts in the 60 to 90 combat range.

Is Scurrius worth doing?

Yes, for what it drops — Scurrius' spine, bones for Prayer XP — if you want that specific reward. It is not a general money maker, and we do not publish a GP per hour figure for it because that number changes with the Grand Exchange.

What kills people at Scurrius?

Excellent mid-level combat XP boss

Bottom Line

Scurrius is approachable enough that the real question is whether scurrius' spine is worth your time at all. If it is, Beginner XP rates will not be what stops you.

If Scurrius is blocking a Combat Achievement or an unlock you actually want, our PvM service is done by hand — no automation. Otherwise the bosses list has the full index.

Scurrius — Standalone, difficulty 1/5. Combat values here — hitpoints, max hits, attack styles and speed, Defence and Magic levels, immunities and Slayer requirements — were read from the Old School RuneScape Wiki infobox for Scurrius on 2026-08-03. Kill rates, GP per hour and item prices are deliberately absent because they move with balance patches and the Grand Exchange.
