OSRS Araxxor Guide: Gear, Mechanics, Drops and Combat Tasks

Araxxor needs 92 Slayer and a spider or araxyte task, and he is the highest combat level Slayer boss in the game. Here are the three araxyte types, the special attack you can predict from an egg colour, the enrage step-under trick and every unique drop.
Overview
Araxxor was released on 28 August 2024 and is the strongest Slayer boss in the game by combat level. He sits at 890 with 1,020 hitpoints, and unlike most bosses he can only be fought while you are on a spider or araxyte Slayer task.
He is a solo fight. The Old School version has no duo option, which means every mechanic is yours to handle: three types of araxyte hatching from eggs around the lair, a special attack that repeats for the whole fight, venom on almost everything he does, and an enrage below 25% health that changes his melee into a cleave.
The single most useful thing to know before your first kill is that you can read which special attack you are getting from the colour of one egg, and that his araxytes are handled with completely different tools from Araxxor himself.

Requirements and Access
The Slayer task requirement is the part that differs from most bosses: no task, no fight. Konar can also assign him specifically as a boss task.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Slayer | 92, unboostable |
| Active task | A spider or araxyte Slayer task, or Araxxor as a Konar boss task |
| Quests | Priest in Peril for Morytania access |
| Strongly recommended | Sins of the Father for Darkmeyer access — not a hard requirement, but it makes the trip far shorter |
| Suggested stats | 85+ Attack, 85+ Strength, 70+ Defence, 85+ Hitpoints, 70+ Prayer for Piety |
| Venom | A way to cure or protect from venom is effectively mandatory |

Every attack he has can inflict venom, and every acid pool inflicts it too, so extended anti-venom+ is not optional gear here — it is the difference between a long trip and a two-kill trip.
Getting There
Araxxor's lair is a web tunnel just north-west of the entrance to the Morytania Spider Cave, which you enter north-east of Darkmeyer.
The fastest routes, in rough order of convenience: the spider cave teleport; the Hallowed Sepulchre using a hallowed crystal shard and then the wall shortcut to the south-east, which needs Sins of the Father, 63 Agility and 2 long ropes; or the ectophial or fairy ring ALQ followed by a run south.
If you have Sins of the Father, the Darkmeyer route is short enough that bank trips stop being the limiting factor on your kills.
Recommended Stats
These are the levels the Wiki's strategy page suggests rather than hard gates. Prayer for Piety matters more than a couple of extra Strength levels.
| Stat | Comfortable | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Attack | 85+ | His defence is 135 and rises to 170 in enrage, so accuracy is the bottleneck |
| Strength | 85+ | Crush is his weakness, so max hit carries the fight |

Gear Setups: Budget, Mid and Best in Slot
Crush is his weakness at +15 defence bonus, against +180 slash. The scythe of vitur is still the fastest option despite being a slash weapon, because its three hits per swing outweigh the style mismatch — the Wiki notes the twisted bow is significantly outclassed by it here.
The one piece of kit worth carrying even on a budget setup is a noxious halberd as a secondary weapon, purely to one-shot araxytes from a tile away without triggering a mirrorback's melee reflection.
| Slot | Budget | Mid | Best in slot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Soulreaper axe or inquisitor's mace (crush) | Inquisitor's mace | Scythe of vitur — fastest despite being slash |

Aranea boots are a genuinely unusual defensive option here: they block his ranged attack once every 8 ticks and the cleave once every 20 ticks. They never block his magic, so they are a comfort item rather than a solution.
He has a nominal 50% fire elemental weakness, which the Wiki itself describes as mostly thematic. Do not build a setup around it.
Inventory and Supplies
Two things separate an Araxxor inventory from a normal boss inventory: venom cover, and a throwing option for the araxytes.
- Extended anti-venom+ — everything he does can venom you, including every acid pool
- Prayer potions or super restores
- Super combat potions
- High-healing food; karambwans for combo eating in enrage
- A noxious halberd or a ranged option specifically for araxytes
- Runes for Vengeance on the Lunar spellbook, which also lets you ignore a mirrorback's melee reflection
- Or runes for thralls and Death Charge on the Arceuus spellbook
An active Vengeance means you can hit a mirrorback with melee without taking the 50% reflection, which is worth remembering if you would rather not carry a second weapon.
Mechanics You Have to Respect
The eggs are the mechanic that decides whether a kill is smooth. Nine sit around the lair — three red, three white and three green. The first hatches after three of his standard attacks, starting from the south-easternmost egg and going clockwise, then one every six standard attacks after that.
Eggs have 65 hitpoints and can be destroyed before they hatch, and damage dealt to an egg carries over to the araxyte inside, which has 58. Both eggs and araxytes count as on-task for the Slayer helmet damage bonus, but neither reduces your task count.
| Mechanic | What it does | Correct response |
|---|---|---|
| Melee (crush), max 38 | His default attack while you are in melee range | Protect from Melee cuts it to a max of 5. This is your default prayer. |
| Ranged, max 34 | Used if you are outside melee range. A successful hit drains 9% of your Defence | Protect from Missiles reduces it by about 45% to a max of 18. Better to simply stay in melee range. |
| Magic, max 21 | Also used outside melee range. A successful hit drains 9% of your Prayer | Protect from Magic halves it. He picks whichever of your defensive rolls is lower, so you cannot pray against both. |
| Special attack, every 6 standard attacks | The same special for the whole fight, and you can read which one from the colour of the south-easternmost egg. Red is Acid Drip, a homing blob leaving pools under you for 6 ticks. White is Acid Splatter, venom blobs in a wide arc. Green is Acid Ball, a straight-line projectile with a 3x3 hitbox for around 18 venom damage that explodes into a 7x7 splatter on the wall | Check the egg colour before you engage and you know the whole fight's movement pattern in advance. All three leave acid pools that venom you and deal escalating damage starting at 4 the longer you stand on them. |
| Acidic araxyte | Ranged attacks up to 15, and explodes on death, splattering acid across a 7x7 area | Kill it away from where you are standing, or accept the acid. Do not kill it under yourself. |
| Mirrorback araxyte | Redirects 20% of the damage you deal to Araxxor onto itself, then recoils 50% of that back to you — a net ~10% of your damage returned | Attacking it with melee reflects 50% of your damage. Use ranged, magic, a halberd from one tile away, or have Vengeance active. |
| Ruptura araxyte | Does not attack. Walks to you and explodes in an 8x8 area — 70 damage at full health under it, reduced by 21 per tile of distance | Lure it under Araxxor instead: it deals 80 to enemies whose hitbox is over it. Free damage if you position for it. |
| Enrage, below 255 hitpoints (25%) | A screech and venom on his front legs. Defence +35, Magic +28, Ranged +31, and attack speed goes from 6 ticks to 4. His melee is replaced by a cleave with range 2 hitting a 1x3 area for up to ~38 | Protect from Melee reduces the cleave by about 66%. Dodge it by moving when he shouts "Skree!". The step-under technique — baiting him into cleaving the tiles he occupies — makes him damage himself for 8 to 12. |

Damage is calculated when an attack starts, not when it lands, so switching prayer late does nothing. Get the prayer right before the animation, not during it.
The Kill, Step by Step
Read the egg, set your prayer, and treat the araxytes as a separate job from Araxxor himself.
- Before you engage, look at the south-easternmost egg and note its colour. That tells you which special you will face for the entire fight — red for Acid Drip, white for Acid Splatter, green for Acid Ball.
- Drink your combat potion and anti-venom+, turn on Piety and Protect from Melee, and stay in melee range for the whole fight. Stepping out only invites his ranged and magic attacks, which drain your Defence and Prayer.
- Use an elder maul or dragon warhammer special early. His Defence can only be drained 45 levels, so one elder maul special is all you need.
- Attack normally and count his standard attacks. The first egg hatches after three of them, then one more every six. Optionally pre-break eggs — damage carries over to the araxyte inside.
- When an araxyte hatches, identify it and respond: one-shot an acidic araxyte away from your tile, kill a mirrorback with your halberd from a tile away or with ranged, and reposition so a ruptura walks under Araxxor rather than under you.
- Handle the special attack every six attacks using the pattern you read from the egg. All three leave acid pools, so keep moving off them — the damage escalates the longer you stand there.
- At 255 hitpoints he screeches and enrages. His attack speed drops to 4 ticks and his melee becomes a 1x3 cleave with range 2. Keep Protect from Melee up and step out when he shouts "Skree!".
- In enrage, bait the cleave onto the tiles he occupies — the step-under technique makes him hit himself for 8 to 12 per cleave, which is meaningful over the last quarter of his health.
- On the corpse, choose Harvest to take your loot normally. "Destroy" doubles the pet chance to 1/1,500 but forfeits all loot except elite clues — only worth it if you are specifically pet hunting.
A kill under 1 minute 15 seconds guarantees coagulated venom, provided you do not already have one and have not used one on Nid.
Solo Versus Team
Araxxor is solo only in Old School RuneScape. The Wiki's historical section notes this explicitly, in contrast to the duo option that exists in RuneScape 3.
That changes how you should think about the araxytes. There is nobody to peel a mirrorback for you, so your inventory has to cover both jobs: a crush weapon for Araxxor and a halberd, ranged option or active Vengeance for the spiders.
It also means the Slayer task requirement is a hard gate on partners as well — you cannot be brought along on someone else's task.
Common Mistakes and What Actually Kills You
Most first-kill failures come from treating the araxytes as trash mobs.
- Hitting a mirrorback with melee. It reflects 50% of your damage. Use a halberd from a tile away, ranged, magic, or have Vengeance active.
- Killing an acidic araxyte on your own tile. It explodes into a 7x7 acid splatter that venoms you.
- Letting a ruptura reach you at full health. It hits 70 at point blank. Position so it walks under Araxxor instead and it does 80 to him.
- Arriving without extended anti-venom+. Every attack and every acid pool can venom you. Nothing else eats a trip faster.
- Stepping out of melee range. His ranged drains 9% of your Defence and his magic drains 9% of your Prayer, and he picks whichever of your defensive rolls is worse.
- Switching prayers as the attack lands. Damage is calculated at the start of the animation, so a late switch is wasted.
- Standing on acid pools. The damage escalates the longer you stay, starting at 4 and climbing.
- Not checking the egg colour first. You are choosing to be surprised by a special attack you could have known about before you engaged.
- Choosing "Destroy" on the corpse by accident. It doubles the pet chance but forfeits all loot except elite clues.
Drops Worth Knowing
The unique table rolls at 1/150. The three noxious halberd pieces do not duplicate until you have the full set, which makes the halberd a predictable grind rather than a lottery.
| Drop | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Noxious pommel / point / blade | 1/200 each, and no duplicates until the set is complete. The three combine into the noxious halberd — a two-handed polearm needing 80 Attack, attacking on 5 ticks with a 33% venom chance, or 50% with a serpentine helm |
| Araxyte fang | 1/600. Combined with an amulet of torture at 86 Crafting to make the amulet of rancour, best-in-slot melee amulet |
| Coagulated venom | Guaranteed for a kill under 1:15, provided you do not already have one and have not used one on Nid |
| Araxyte head | 1/250. Recolours a Slayer helmet into an araxyte slayer helmet for 1,000 Slayer points |
| Jar of venom | 1/1,500. Unusual among boss jars in being untradeable |
| Nid (pet) | 1/3,000, doubled to 1/1,500 if you choose "Destroy" on the corpse instead of "Harvest" |
| Araxyte venom sacs | In supply drops, which occur on roughly 1 in 8 kills |
| Brimstone key | 1/40 on a Konar boss task |

Combat Achievements
Araxxor has his own set of Combat Achievement tasks, and several of them line up naturally with playing the fight well rather than requiring a separate attempt.
The step-under technique in enrage, luring rupturas under him, and killing him quickly enough for coagulated venom are all things you will be doing anyway once the fight is comfortable, so read the task list before your first few kills rather than after.
Because he can only be fought on a spider or araxyte task, plan Combat Achievement attempts around your Slayer assignments rather than expecting to grind them on demand.
Ironman Notes
Araxxor is a strong target for an Ironman because the amulet of rancour is best-in-slot melee neck and the noxious halberd pieces do not duplicate until the set is complete, so the grind has a defined end.
The 92 Slayer requirement plus the spider or araxyte task restriction means you cannot rush him. Unlocking and preferring the relevant tasks with your Slayer master is the practical way to get more attempts.
The araxyte head recolour costs 1,000 Slayer points, which is a real consideration on an account where points are spent on task blocks and unlocks.
FAQ
Can I fight Araxxor without a Slayer task?
No. You need 92 Slayer and an active spider or araxyte task, or Araxxor assigned specifically as a Konar boss task. This is unusual for a boss and it is the most common reason people cannot find the fight.
Can Araxxor be done in a duo?
Not in Old School RuneScape. He is solo only here, unlike the RuneScape 3 version which has a duo option.
What weapon should I actually bring?
He is weak to crush, but the scythe of vitur is still the fastest option because of its multiple hits per swing — the Wiki notes the twisted bow is significantly outclassed by it. On a budget, a soulreaper axe or inquisitor's mace works, and you want a noxious halberd as a secondary regardless.
How do I know which special attack I am getting?
Look at the south-easternmost egg before you engage. Red means Acid Drip, white means Acid Splatter and green means Acid Ball, and it stays the same for the whole fight.
Do I need a dragon warhammer or elder maul?
It helps a lot. His Defence is 135 and rises to 170 in enrage, and it can only be drained 45 levels total — so one elder maul special maxes out the drain.
Should I choose Harvest or Destroy on the corpse?
Harvest, unless you are specifically hunting Nid. Destroy doubles the pet chance to 1/1,500 but forfeits all loot except elite clue scrolls.

Bottom Line
Araxxor is a knowledge fight rather than a gear fight. Read the egg colour, stay in melee range with Protect from Melee, and treat the three araxyte types as three different problems with three different answers.
The two pieces of kit that change the fight most are extended anti-venom+ and a noxious halberd as a secondary. Neither is expensive relative to the rest of a setup, and both remove entire categories of failure.
If 92 Slayer is what is standing between you and the amulet of rancour, our Slayer training is hand-trained, and our PvM service covers Araxxor kills.
